Feeding Or Delivering Patents (Class 101/228)
  • Patent number: 6701837
Abstract: To stably transport an elongated web-like print paper so as not to move in the widthwise direction of the print paper, a first sensor is disposed at a first position in a paper conveying path and a second sensor at a second position downstream of the first position with respect to the paper conveying direction. Both the first and second sensors detect a position of a side edge or the print paper. A difference between the outputs from the first and second sensors is computed while taking a travel time of the edge detected by the first sensor to reach the second sensor into account. A main controller generates a drive signal based on the difference computed and controls a mechanism for moving the print paper in the widthwise direction in accordance with the drive signal.

  • Patent number: 6684776
Abstract: A method for determining the presence of slipping of a driven nip roller relative to the web in a web printing press includes systematically changing the speed of the nip driver while monitoring the corresponding change in web tension difference across the nip. The linearity and a slope of the relationship between the tension difference and the speed of the nip driver are determined. When the tension difference is non-linear relative to the speed of the driver or the slope of the relationship is substantially less than an expected slope, then slipping is determined to be present. An operator slip indication may be provided which includes the direction of the slip, positive or negative. The operator may then take corrective action to re-establish a non-slip condition, or automatic corrective actions may ensue.

  • Patent number: 6604463
Abstract: A printing web distortion device for imposing a measured amount of distortion into a moving web of substrate, such as paper, to compensate for lateral stretching of the substrate during a printing operation includes a post, which can be vertically adjusted, having a gas nozzle disposed at, or adjacent to, the tip of the post for generating a cushion of a gas. A support enclosure for the post has a source for pressurized gas. The post is able to slide longitudinally within the support enclosure, so that the tip of the post is either raised in an operating mode, so that the post imposes a stretch compensating distortion or, in an idle mode, the post is withdrawn from the substrate, so that no elevating force is provided on the substrate. In the operating mode, the stretch compensating distortion results from an elevating force provided by the post between the tip of the post and the moving substrate resulting from the cushion of gas, which is preferably a cushion of air.

Abstract: A color thermal printer has a feed roller set, a thermal head, and a tension roller set that are serially arranged along a transporting path. The feed roller set and the tension roller set are rotated by respectively a stepping motor and a DC motor. The stepping motor rotates forwards. Simultaneously, the DC motor rotates the tension roller set forwards, to apply a first transporting force to the continuous recording sheet at a level higher than a predetermined transporting force of the feed roller set. Also, the stepping motor rotates backwards. Simultaneously, the DC motor rotates the tension roller set backwards, to apply a second transporting force to the continuous recording sheet at a level lower than the predetermined transporting force.

  • Patent number: 6443061
Abstract: A disklike rotary switch is installed at a junction of four web-threading guideways in a rotary printing press, for use in switching a web, being threaded through the press preparatory to printing, from one to another of the guideways. The web-threading guideways are of radial arrangement, constantly spaced 45 degrees from one another, about the axis of rotation of the switch. The switch has defined therein two orthogonally intersecting, rectilinear switching guideways, each for intercommunicating one pair of web-threading guideways opposed to each other across the switch, and two arcuate switching guideways each for intercommunicating two of the web-threading guideways that are adjacent each other circumferentially of the switch. A single fluid-actuated cylinder is used for driving the switch between two preassigned angular positions. A tandem connection of two such cylinders is used in an alternative embodiment for driving the switch between three positions.

Abstract: The device for the control of blowing air is connected to a compressed-air source and it includes at least one outflow orifice. The device has a valve element which is moveable into a first position in which blowing air flows from the compressed-air source at least through a first duct to the outflow orifice and which is moveable into a second position in which blowing air flows from the compressed-air source at least through a second duct to the outflow orifice. A volume flow through the second duct is greater than a volume flow through the first duct. The device is formed as a basic body which is constructed in such a way that a plurality of such basic bodies can be assembled to form a blowing-air body, such as a turner bar in a printing machine.
