Abstract: The present invention provides methods for producing a seamless embossing shim. The shim carries a pattern to be embossed on a decorative medium, such that the image on the decorative medium contains no production seams. The methods comprise several steps. First, the a flat shim is casted onto a plastic cylinder to form a plastic master with the pattern on the outer surface to form a plastic master. Second, the plastic master is used to produce a metal master by depositing a layer of metal on the outer surface of the plastic master. Lastly, the metal master is then used to formed the seamless embossing shim by depositing a layer of metal on the inner surface of the metal master.
Abstract: A decorative relief pattern is applied to one or both sides of thermoplastic slat material by rolling an embossing roller in contact with the side(s) to receive the pattern. The embossing roller has an inverse relief pattern which is an inverse of the relief pattern applied to the slat material. A transfer roller applies an ink layer to the embossing roller, with the resulting thickness of the ink layer varying according to features of the inverse relief pattern. Depressed areas of the inverse relief pattern receive relatively little ink. An air stream from an air knife is applied to the ink layer, with ink being preferentially cleaned from relatively smooth areas of the inverse relief pattern. Then, a portion of the ink remaining on the embossing roller is transferred to the slat material along with the formation of the embossed pattern in the slat material.
Abstract: The embossing rolls of embossing devices serving for the treatment of two-dimensionally extending materials, preferably in the packaging industry, may be made exchangeable if they are disposed in suitable interchangeable units. An interchangeable unit may e.g. take the form of a sleeve having its ends provided with fitting surfaces. The mount of an embossing device comprises corresponding seats which are very precisely adapted to the actual interchangeable unit. In the inserted condition, i.e. when the fitting surfaces of the retaining elements are inserted in the associated seats, the embossing roll contained in an exchangeable unit is thus placed in its operational position without requiring any further adjusting operations. Particularly the driven embossing roll of such an embossing device is thus substantially less complicated to exchange, thereby allowing quick maintenance and production changeovers.
