  • Patent number: 5634406
Abstract: A method for automatically feeding a printing plate in proper registry to a plate cylinder in a printing machine is disclosed. Pursuant to the disclosed method, a printing plate is advanced by a plate conveyor towards a clamping rail on the plate cylinder. After the leading edge is inserted into the clamping rail, the in-register condition of the leading edge of the printing plate is independently sensed at two sensing sites. If the leading edge of the printing plate is in register at only one site, the printing plate is released from the plate conveyor for a period of time to permit the printing plate to align itself. The printing plate is then held again by the plate conveyor and the advancement of the plate is resumed. This process is repeated until the independent sensors both indicate that registry has been achieved.

  • Patent number: 5535677
Abstract: A printing method and apparatus for printing different indicia, such as account numbers, on selected documents without changing plates or stopping the press during a press run. Different indicia are provided at two or more lines on a printing plate, each line being separated from an adjacent line on the plate by a predetermined distance relative to movement of the plate in a press. The plate transfers images to a blanket having a region that does not contact the plate and thus receives no image of the plate area that registers with the noncontacting region of the blanket. The plate and blanket initially are aligned so that the noncontacting region registers with one set of indicia on the plate, so that the blanket receives a partial inked image lacking that indicia. • Patent number: 5331893
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the registered application of printing plates to a printing cylinder applies the printing plates to the jacket face of the printing cylinder exactly registered and free of bubbles and warping. The printing plate is clamped in a frictionally connected manner in a stretched position by holding arms and is exactly registered in a horizontal and vertical set position. The plate is then aligned and spaced apart from the printing cylinder and is maintained in a frictionally connected manner. Subsequently, the printing plate is brought into line contact with the jacket and is then pressed against it. The printing plate is pressed down against the cylinder jacket, starting at the contact line, and the pressing force is then applied to the plate circumferentially around the cylinder from the initial contact line.

  • Patent number: 5317971
Abstract: Flexographic printing plates are mounted in precise registration on printing press cylinders for multicolor printing using a registration apparatus. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus has a support on which a cylinder can be locked in fixed axial and circumferential position. A pair of pin holders slide on a bar parallel to the cylinder axis to set registration pins in precise positions relative to the surface of the cylinder. The bar moves toward the cylinder and places the pin bases on the cylinder surface so the plate is registered on the pins and adhered to the cylinder along the plate centerline and then across its back. The pin holders are set from a template that matches the plates. The locked pin holders and cylinder support allow additional plates to be similarly mounted on other cylinders in precisely corresponding positions, from their centerlines, with reduced error.

  • Patent number: 5263413
Abstract: The present invention belongs to the technical field of synchronously controlling the phase relationship between a plurality of printing rolls in a corrugated board printing press. The object of this invention is to realize synchronous phase control at low cost and with high precision by software. In this invention, a speed command inputted is converted to a digital value at regular intervals to integrate the digital value, the revolution speed of each of the printing rolls is also integrated, and any deviation between these integrated values is subjected to PI operation, thereby separately correcting the revolution speed commands given to drive motors on the basis of their corresponding results of the PI operation. At this time, when the results of the operation in the course of the integrating the speed command and the individual printing rolls exceed the highest value, their values separately return to 0 to continue the operation.
