Abstract: High molecular weight carboxylic acids are provided. The mixed acid products of this invention typically contain a high percentage of aliphatic straight-chain monocarboxylic acids containing 22 or more carbon atoms. The monocarboxylic acids are obtained by the ozonization of high molecular weight .alpha.-olefins under controlled conditions. Using this ozonization process it is possible to obtain mixed acid products wherein the predominant acids contain 22 to 35 carbon atoms. An additional feature of this invention is the ability to obtain mixed acid products wherein acids having an odd number of carbon atoms are present in significantly larger amounts than acids having an even number of carbon atoms.

Abstract: Soaps and ester-soaps of high molecular weight branched- and straight-chain aliphatic monocarboxyic acids obtained from .alpha.-olefins containing 22 or more carbon atoms are useful lubricants for structural resins. High molecular weight acids useful for the preparation of the soaps and ester-soaps are obtained by the free radical addition of a short chain monocarboxylic acid to C.sub.22.sub.+ olefin or by ozonization of the C.sub.22.sub.+ olefin. The products of this invention provide excellent internal-external lubrication for PVC homopolymers and copolymers.
Abstract: Wax polishing compositions in the form of a double emulsion wherein the continuous phase comprises organic solvent, organopolysiloxane and water-in-oil emulsifier and the discontinuous phase comprises aqueous particles having dispersed particles of wax therein. Compositions are prepared by adding at room temperature an aqueous media containing emulsified wax to a solvent solution containing organopolysiloxane and water-in-oil emulsifier, also at room temperature.

Abstract: This invention relates to a stabilization composition, particularly adapted to prevent deterioration resulting from exposure to heat and light in polymeric materials, paints and dyes, consisting essentially of a normally liquid, branched chain dodecyl isomeric mixture of 2-(5'-dodecyl-2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazole; to the method of preparing said stabilization composition and to the stabilized products having between about 0.05 and about 15 weight percent of said stabilization composition incorporated therein.
Abstract: A non-abrasive, non-toxic polish for stainless steels and the like in the form of an aqueous, paste-like emulsion containing alumina powder, a non-volatile aliphatic alcohol and a polyoxyethylated aliphatic base.
Abstract: Improved detergent resistant polish compositions can be prepared by adding novel aminofunctional silicon fluids obtained from an equilibration process to conventional polish compositions. Polishes having improved rub-out and gloss may be obtained by adding the aminofunctional silicon fluid and hydroxyl-terminated organopolysiloxanes and/or silicone resins to the polish compositions.
Abstract: A waxing and protective coating composition embodying the invention comprises a mixture of wax residue such as paraffin and microcrystalline wax, chlorinated solvent, petroleum distillate, and a nonionic surfactant such as nonylphenoxypoly-(ethyleneoxy)ethanol and a small amount of [N,N,N',N'-tetrakis (2-hydroxypropyl)ethylenediamine].
Abstract: A cream wax is produced by forming a mixture of beeswax, paraffin wax and turpentine and heating the mixture to a temperature of approximately 120.degree. F. Linseed oil is heated to the same temperature and then mixed with the above ingredients while maintaining the mixture at that temperature. Naphtha is heated to approximately 110.degree. F. and added to the previous mixture, the temperature of which has been reduced to approximately 110.degree. F. Water and soap are mixed together and heated to approximately 130.degree. F., the heat is removed from the previous mixture and the water and soap mixture added thereto. The aforesaid mixing steps are all accompanied by agitation of the already formed mixture to which the new ingredients are added. The percentage composition by weight of the ingredients to the total composition is as follows: beeswax 8%; paraffin wax and soap 2.4%, turpentine 16%, linseed oil 8%, water 20%, and naphtha 43.2%.
Abstract: Multicomponent wax emulsion polish compositions are viscosity stabilized with a compound of the formula R--X--O--(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.n --H wherein R is an aliphatic group and X is selected from the group consisting of phenylene, carbonyl and a carbon to oxygen bond and n is a whole number from about 12 to about 50. The compositions are of special interest in providing shoe polish compositions useful in functional dispensers.

Abstract: a metal-complexed polymer prepared from ethylenically-unsaturated monomers, such as styrene, with a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride incorporated into the main polymer backbone to contribute carboxyl functionality, is disclosed. The resulting polymer is complexed with a metal such as zinc to achieve a crosslinked, highly insoluble film. These metal-complexed polymers may be employed in the preparation of metal-complexed, detergent-resistant coating compositions.
