Abstract: Methods of recovering lignin products and other products from biomass. The method comprises adding a chemical agent to a stored biomass comprising lignin to form a chemically-treated biomass. The chemical agent comprises an acid, a base, an inorganic salt, or a combination of the inorganic salt and one of the acid or the base. The chemically-treated biomass is stored under anaerobic conditions. Lignin products, such as high molecular weight lignin, medium molecular weight lignin, or low molecular weight lignin, are recovered from the chemically-treated biomass. Additional methods of recovering lignin products and other products from biomass are disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to stone mastic asphalt compounds which are produced using a new technique and process. The process utilizes a specific aggregate gradation and matrix for high stability. Specially formulated fiber mastic asphalt is used to hold the aggregate in place while providing extended durability. This formulation is able to handle heavy loading from commercial vehicles and thus minimize pavement surface distresses. The use of the present invention is expected to reduce the cost of materials by about 15 to 20 percent.

Abstract: A modified dilute acid method of hydrolyzing the cellulose and hemicellulose in lignocellulosic material under conditions to obtain higher overall fermentable sugar yields than is obtainable using dilute acid alone, comprising:
impregnating a lignocellulosic feedstock with a mixture of an amount of aqueous solution of a dilute acid catalyst and a metal salt catalyst sufficient to provide higher overall fermentable sugar yields than is obtainable when hydrolyzing with dilute acid alone;
loading the impregnated lignocellulosic feedstock into a reactor and heating for a sufficient period of time to hydrolyze substantially all of the hemicellulose and greater than 45% of the cellulose to water soluble sugars; and recovering the water soluble sugars.
