Abstract: A pigment composition includes a pigment extender which optionally contains a pigment, and further includes a non-hydrogenated phospholipid material, such as non-hydrogenated lecithin, and a surface modifying agent. Suitable modifying agents are selected from fatty acids, fatty acid esters or fatty acid triglycerides, silicones and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: Aggregate-TiO.sub.2 pigment products comprising in each 100 parts, by weight, at least 50 parts, by weight, particulate TiO.sub.2 materials bound intrinsically with other pigmentary, subpigmentary and nonpigmentary components with the aid of inorganic and/or organic cements/adhesives.
Abstract: An improved process for preparing non-agglomerated water insoluble inorganic particles having a dense amorphous silica coating by using a dispersion aid.
Abstract: An inorganic paint suitable for harsh environments, and particularly suitable as a thermal control coating for spacecraft, includes a mixture of 50% or more dry weight barium titanate (BaTiO.sub.3) pigment powder with a binder of an alkali metal silicate such as potassium silicate K.sub.2 SiO.sub.3 or sodium silicate Na.sub.2 SiO.sub.3. Instead of alkali metal silicate binder, a glass frit may be used, which when fused binds the pigment to the substrate. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the pigment is about 12.times.10.sup.-6 /.degree.C. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the paint is moved toward the coefficient of expansion of the substrate by addition of a filler consisting of magnesia to increase the paint's coefficient of expansion, or alumina and/or silica to decrease the paint's coefficient of expansion. The paint survives harsh environments, ultraviolet radiation and a fluence of charged particles, while maintaining a low solar absorptance and high thermal emittance.
Abstract: A titanium dioxide pigment slurry containing from about 70 to about 80 percent by weight solids content is provided by dewatering, at superatmospheric pressure, a highly dispersed pigment slurry containing from about 20 to about 50 percent by weight of an untreated, nonflocculated titanium dioxide pigment and which slurry has a pH of below about 4.0 or above about 8.0 to produce a wet filter cake. The wet filter cake is reslurried in the presence of a dispersing agent. The high solids content slurry preferably is prepared from rutile titanium dioxide pigment.
Abstract: Chromium-antimony-rutile mixed phase pigments containing from 0.01 to 0.25% by weight of lithium are surprisingly insensitive to rapid cooling and chilling and are used for coloring plastic compositions such as polyamide or ABS plastics.
Abstract: In a process for producing a composite TiO.sub.2 pigment which contains a white inert extender, the neutralization is simplified and the need for washing processes is eliminated in that a metatitanic acid suspension, which contains free and combined sulfuric acid and has been purified for the removal of chromophoric elements, is neutralized by an addition of calcium oxide and/or barium oxide in quantities which are stoichiometric with respect to total sulfate, the calcium sulfate and/or barium sulfate is precipitated in an intimate mixture with the metatitanic acid, and the coprecipitate is separated and dried. The precipitated calcium sulfate and/or barium sulfate is contained in the coprecipitate in an amount from 1 to 25% by weight.
Abstract: A rust-proofing agent containing as an active ingredient an oxide solid solution represented by formula (1)[(Zn).sub.1-y (Mg).sub.y ].sub.1-x Al.sub.x O.sub.1+x/2 (1)wherein x denotes a positive number satisfying 0.1<x<0.6 and y denotes a positive number satisying 0<y<1, a rust-proofing coating composition containing said rust-proofing agent and a coating method for preventing or inhibiting corrosion of a metallic surface.
