Abstract: The present invention provides a novel method to produce grade road base material using recycled oilfield waste, called “oil and gas waste,” and aggregate waste and a novel road base material. Hydration and mixing of the waste materials along with a binder, will achieve an irreversible pozzolanic chemical reaction necessary for stabilization into a road base. An asphalt emulsifier may be included in the binder to manufacture asphalt stabilized road base. The entire method is a cold batch process.

Abstract: A backerboard sheet is for moist areas and includes a core having opposing first and second major surfaces, at least one moisture-resistant face layer on at least one of the first and second major surfaces of the core; and wherein the core includes aerated concrete. The provision of aerated concrete for the core provides many key advantages over conventional backerboard sheets, such as gypsum greenboard or cementitious backerboard, for example. The at least one moisture-resistant face layer may include fibers, such as arranged in a woven mesh. The fibers may include at least one of glass, plastic, and metal. In addition, the at least one moisture-resistant face layer may further include a moisture-resistant material incorporating the fibers, such as a suitable resin, for example.

Abstract: The invention concerns an aqueous bitumen emulsion, consisting of the following constituents expressed in weight percentages of the emulsion total weight: 50% to 70% of bitumen; 0.5% to 10% of surfactant; 0% to 5% of thickening agent; 0% to 1% of antifoaming agent; a sufficient quantity of water to make up 100%. Said emulsion is characterised in that the surfactant consists of at least a surfactant selected among the group consisting of an ethylene oxide and a propylene oxide copolymer, with PO/EO ratio ranging between 1.5 and 10, an ethoxylated and/or propoxylated epoxidized surfactant, and a polyvinyl alcohol having molecular mass ranging between 10000 and 150000. The invention also concerns the method for obtaining said emulsions, the compositions containing them, and the use of said bitumen emulsions for the formulation of compositions comprising a hydraulic or organic binder, and/or a mineral or organic filler.

Abstract: A process is described for preparing a water-soluble sulphonated dispersant from a petroleum hydrocracking residue comprising: contacting a petroleum hydrocracking residue boiling above 524.degree. C. with concentrated sulphuric acid, oleum or sulphur trioxide to form a sulphonated mixture containing water soluble and water insoluble products, and separating the water soluble sulphonated product from the mixture. The mixture of water soluble and water insoluble sulphonated products is neutralized with alkali and evaporated to dryness, after which the dried mixture is extracted with alcohol to leave a water soluble product. The product can be used as a water reducer or superplasticizer in concrete.

Abstract: A process for preparing a sulfonated dispersant from a petroleum asphalt fraction, comprising:establishing contact between the asphalt fraction dissolved in an inert solvent and liquid or gaseous sulfur trioxide at a temperature equal to or less than 60.degree. C., to obtain a sulfonated asphalt fraction;salifying the sulfonated asphalt fraction thus obtained by contact with an aqueous solution of a hydroxide of an alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium and recovering the sulfonated salt from the reaction mixture.This process provides water-soluble sulfonated salts of petroleum asphalt fractions, which can be used as fluidifying and stabilizing agents for aqueous dispersions of solids, such as aqueous dispersions of coal or cement.
Abstract: A tag is added to an asphalt additive, typically an anti-stripping agent. The additive dye is mixed with other components of an asphalt composition and melt processed at 300.degree. F. (149.degree. C.) or above to produce an asphalt composition. Presence of the tag to identify presence of the additive is performed by dissolving the asphalt portion of the composition in a water-immiscible solvent and then extracting the tag in an acidic aqueous solution and developing a color with a diazo compound.

The refractory concrete contains corundum and active alumina as aggregates, an alumina .[.concrete.]. .Iadd.cement .Iaddend.containing less than 22% lime and, as required, a thinning agent. Up to 5% of the aggregates can be replaced by a spinel-forming substance preferably MgO or MgO-yielding compounds; or up to 5% of the aggregates can be replaced by carbon black, pitch or graphite; or up to 7% of the aggregates can be replaced by chromium oxide. Aggregates under 0.5 mm can be present in the refractory concrete as round grains.
