Patent number: 6877445Abstract: A chamber having a discharge base discharges an oversize fraction of a material and a fine fraction of the material separately from the chamber. The discharge base for the chamber for the heat treatment of the material is capable of separating the fine fraction of the material from the oversize fraction of the material. The discharge base has a plurality of conveyor elements which are movable to and fro for the discharge of the oversize fraction of the material. The discharge base is also provided with separator openings for separating out the fine fraction of the material. The conveyor elements are of bar-shape construction and are disposed in parallel to one another on the discharge base to be moveable in the direction of their longitudinal extent, and the separator openings are formed by longitudinal gaps between the conveyor elements.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2002Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Polysius AGInventors: Ludwig Könning, Thomas Rüther, Ralf Osburg, Ludger Brentrup, Holger Schmidthals, Martin Torner

Patent number: 5137010Abstract: Stoves fueled by biomass pellets are provided with a grate assembly that supports the pellets for combustion and directs combustion gas into the fire. The grate assembly includes a passive grate and a moveable elongate blade spaced above the upper surface of the grate to direct ash and clinkers through a plurality of elongate slots in the grate. The design of the planar plate and the movement of the blade serves to prevent the ash and clinkers from accumulating on the grate in amounts that could block the elongate slots and reduce the flow of combustion gas into the fire.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1991Date of Patent: August 11, 1992Assignee: Pyro Industries, Inc.Inventors: Oliver J. Whitfield, Phillip W. Robertson, Craig G. Wright

Patent number: 5103744Abstract: An apparatus for the combustion and/or decomposition of fuel by heat, especially of solid fuels such as peat, coal, wood, straw or garbage, comprising a fuel supply and air supply to a bar grate which is used as combustion site and cooperates with material loosening means in the form of disks, prongs or the like which extend through the grate interstices and are mounted on a support member which extends transversely to the grate bars, in which the disks are reciprocable relative to the grate bars in the direction towards the same. The material loosening disks are fitted onto support members each in the form of a support rod of substantially rectangular cross-section such that the disks are individually displaceable in the direction of the support rod.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Inventor: Nils E. Tunstromer

Patent number: 4884516Abstract: An inclined grate construction or apparatus in the combustion chamber of a combustion furnace, comprising a plurality of adjacent grate tubes in the longitudinal direction of the grate, said tubes being welded together through flat bars. Below the grate is disposed a grate bar carriage, which, in use, reciprocates horizontally respective to the grate. The grate bar carriage supports at least one grate bar, which is pushed through the grate via an opening in the flat bar between two adjacent grate tubes when the grate bar carriage moves towards the grate. The grate bar carriage is also vertically displaceable.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1988Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: A. Ahlstrom CorporationInventor: Lauri G. Linsen

Patent number: 4732561Abstract: In apparatus for cooling hot material, a material transfer stage is provided in the material inlet of a cooler and acted on by cooling air. The transfer stage has a plurality of air-permeable carrier elements spanning the breadth of the inlet. At least one group of the carrier elements is arranged with a downward and forward inclination of approximately 10.degree. to 20.degree. in the direction of material transport. The carrier elements have forwardly facing sides provided with openings through which cooling air may pass.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1986Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Assignee: Krupp Polysius AGInventors: Karl Eiring, Manfred Durr, Heinz-Herbert Schmits

Patent number: 4676176Abstract: This invention relates to a grate for burning solid combustibles and, more particularly, refuse in a fired furnace. The grate comprises a plurality of steps, each step including a plurality of adjacent grate bars with alternate steps of grate bars being movable relative to an adjacent step of stationary grate bars. Each grate bar includes a substantially horizontal platform terminating in a front lip, a pusher and means for pivotally mounting said pusher beneath the platform at a point near the back of the platform. The pusher includes a faceplate shaped to form an elongated channel with the undersurface of the lip to pass combustion air to said firing chamber. The relative position of the pusher and horizontal platform can be adjusted to vary the size of the air channel in order to adjust the amount of air fed to the firing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1985Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Inventor: Vaifro V.
