Publication number: 20100326338Abstract: A partition divides an enclosure into an upper space and a lower space, the partition having a hole which provides essentially the only passage for gas to flow from the lower space to the upper space. A reactor tube having open ends is supported by the partition over the hole, and a grate spaced below the hole. A primary air inlet arrangement feeds air into the lower space for gasification of solid fuel on the grate, and a secondary air inlet directs a jet of air toward the inlet end of combustion tube communicating with the upper space and having an open exhaust end outside the enclosure. Product gas formed by gasification of solid fuel on the grate and passing through the reactor tube into the upper space will be drawn into the combustion tube to create a sub-atmospheric pressure in the upper space.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2009Publication date: December 30, 2010Inventor: Kimmo Ahola

Patent number: 7841282Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system for combusting bridging fuel which includes biomass material. The apparatus includes an enclosure having a relatively thin wall defining a firebox. A temperature sensor is positioned on the exterior of the wall of the firebox. A controller is operatively connected to the temperature sensor and the fuel feed conveyor. If the temperature sensor exceeds a set point, the controller automatically operates the fuel feed conveyor to refill the firebox with fuel, which reinsulates the wall of the firebox so that fuel surrounds the combustion. A method according to the invention causes a refilling of fuel into a firebox upon sensing a condition indicative of a collapse of the bridging fuel in the firebox during combustion, losing its insulating effect at that location. The refilling is adapted to reinsulate the firebox with the fuel.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2006Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Inventors: John Kimberlin, Matthew B. Keeling

Publication number: 20100261128Abstract: This invention discloses a pellet fuel combustion device, which comprises an electric arc ignition pin installed in the combustion chamber to generate high-voltage electric arc. The pellet fuels transported by the feeding mouth start burning once they touch the electric arc. High-voltage electric arc is generated by electric arc ignition pin the moment the pellet fuel combustion device starts up, which accelerates igniting speed greatly and reduces power consumption. Furthermore, the fuel pellets can achieve full burning by scattering and touching electric arc without bringing on smeek. Hence, this invention has great advantages over conventional ignitions which produce heat and fire by resistance wire.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2009Publication date: October 14, 2010Inventor: Dewang Li

Publication number: 20100132596Abstract: The invention relates to a burner for solid fuel such as biomass or tyres, that comprises a heating body in the shape of a cylinder (1,1?, 1?) with solid fuel supply means and means for the inlet of primary air (13, 13?, 13?) as oxidant, said cylinder being provided with a plate (3,3?,3?) in its lower part. The invention comprises placing the plate above the means for the inlet of primary air (13, 13?, 13?), wherein the plate has through holes and is arranged so as to receive the fuel without the fuel flowing therethrough, and said burner further includes inside said cylinder (1, 1?,1?) means for generating a negative pressure within the burner so as to generate a primary air circulation from the underside of the plate (3, 3?,3?) and through said plate and the fuel resting thereon up to a gas outlet duct (4, 4?, 4?) in the upper portion of said burner. Application in the combustion of biomass, tyres and the like.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2007Publication date: June 3, 2010Inventor: Sylvian Longatte
