  • Patent number: 6957300
Abstract: Method and apparatus for transferring data between a host device and a data storage device having a first memory space and a second memory space. The host issues access commands to store and retrieve data. The device stores commands in the first memory space pending transfer to the second memory space. An interface circuit evaluates relative proximity of first and second sets of LBAs associated with pending first and second commands, and delays promotion of later pending commands in front of earlier pending commands during an overlap condition. If the overlap is caused by performance enhancing features (PEF) the PEFs are disabled so the commands can be scheduled for disc access. Indicators are set in the commands to signal that a PEF has caused the overlap and that PEF can be disabled. Values are added to indicators in the commands such that the PEFs can be modified and avoid overlaps.

  • Patent number: 6662880
Abstract: A traveling rolling digger for sequential hole drilling or for producing sequential cultivated spots in soil. The traveling rolling digger includes at least one drilling shaft which is rotatable by a drive mechanism about a longitudinal shaft axis and has a rotating soil penetrating edge. The drilling shaft is mounted to roll about a horizontal shaft in a soil penetrating plane while the horizontal shaft moves in a direction of travel of the traveling rolling digger. The rotating drilling shaft enters the soil at an entry angle and digs into the soil while the horizontal shaft moves in the direction of travel and the drilling shaft continuously changes its angle relative to the soil from the entry angle to a vertical position.

  • Patent number: 6164384
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a plurality of spaced apart cultivated spots in soil. A spot cultivator (1) is moved across the soil in a direction in which the spaced apart cultivated spots are to be formed. The spot cultivator (1) includes at least one tilling shaft (7) which is mounted to roll about a horizontal axis which moves with the spot cultivator (1) and which is rotatable about a longitudinal axis of at least one tilling shaft (7). At least one tilling shaft (7) is rolled about said horizontal axis in a plane which intersects the soil. The at least one tilling shaft (7) has a length sufficient to contact and penetrate the soil at a controlled spacing during each rotation about the horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 6125776
Abstract: A device for digging holes for setting out bedding plants, including a rotary tool for digging a hole, the tool having a shank adapted to be chucked to a power drill and passing through an inverted bowl shaped transparent plastic cover to contain excavated soil and dispose the same in an annular mound, for ready repacking of the soil around the plant roots. A limit stop arrangement limits the extent of advance through the cover which rests on the ground during the use of the device, so as to set the hole depth. The tool has a flat bladed digging portion forming a flat bottomed hole.

  • Patent number: 4911089
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and a machine for substantially automatically positioning root control bags in the ground. The method includes the steps of excavating soil to form a trench, positioning root control bags, supported by formers, in the trench or an adjacent trench, and then filling the trench and the bags with soil excavated by the machine. After the bags have been filled the formers are extracted from the filled bags leaving the bags in an erect and filled condition within the filled trench. The invention extends to a machine for performing these operations, the machine including an excavator, bag positioning means, former extractions means, and soil conveying means for conveying soil excavated by the excavator to a position intermediate the bag positioning means and the extraction means. The various components of the machine can be automated to a greater or lesser extent.
