Generally, the applique steps are so labeled in order for the design creator to be able to let the sewer know what they are doing.

The seam allowance margin is folded through the opening/shape to the reverse side, and a second piece of fabric is affixed to the folded margin. The digitized file instructs the machine to stitch a hidden seam along the desired seam providing esthetic, geometrically precise fabric pattern pieces.

Software calculates the intersecting areas using 2-Dimensional Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) to determine which letter will be on-top at each letter intersection, and sorts the intersecting areas into zones, wherein the top letter for each zone is toggled, letters within a zone are alternated, and only the top letter segment is shown. Software cuts out letter segments that will be below another letter at each intersection, and fills the weaved letter or grapheme areas with embroidery.

    Abstract: An embroidery sewing appliqué technique. A tacking stitch is produced and positioned inside a column of a fabric that holds down the fabric on top of a base or host material, such as a garment. Running parallel to the tacking stitch, a column or satin stitch runs near and to the outside of the tacking stitch. The column or satin stitch has a higher density than that utilized in normal embroidery applications. The higher density satin stitch varies with needle size and thread size. The satin stitch cuts the fabric along the outer edge of the fabric. The tack stitch on the inside of the satin stitch locks the fabric down therefore not allowing the inner edge of the satin to be lifted away from the garment by virtue of the running tack stitch and without a separate cutting step.

Permutations or combinations of the sewing targets are created as sewing sequence candidates. A number of needle bars N provided at a multi-needle sewing machine is acquired. An optimal thread replacement count is initialized. A thread replacement count is calculated for each of sewing sequence candidates, in the case where sewing operations are carried out by the multi-needle sewing machine equipped with N needle bars on the sewing targets in accordance with the sewing sequence candidates. A sewing sequence candidate of the fewest thread replacement count is determined to be an optimal sewing sequence candidate. The optimal sewing sequence candidate is displayed on a liquid crystal display and announced. Determination of sewing sequences at the time of carrying out sewing operations with respect to multiple sewing targets is easily achieved.
