Abstract: A cross-tufting machine and process for manufacturing carpet. The cross-tufting machine includes a sewing head and a tufting gun. The sewing head is movably mounted on support railing and a support platform is provided to support carpet that is to be provided with a tufted secondary pattern. The carpet moves in steps on top of the support platform in a machine direction and the sewing head traverses back and forth in a cross-wise direction wherein the tufting gun forms the tufted secondary pattern in the carpet.

Abstract: A tufting machine for creating cut pile carpet with two different pile heights. A knife (20) associated with a respective hook assembly (1), and is reciprocally mounted and inclined with respect thereto. Each hook assembly has upper (6) and lower (7) hooks each having a cutting edge (8, 9) at the lower edge and means (10) for selectively directing the yarn onto one of the upper and lower hooks. The knives (20) each have a single cutting edge (21) arranged to co-operate with both the upper (6) and lower (7) hooks to cut each loop of yarn seized by a respective hook assembly with a scissor action. Relief (22) is provided between the knife and the lower hook allowing the knife to clear the lower hook (7) when the knife cutting edge (21) approaches the upper hook cutting edge (8).
Abstract: A tufting machine is provided with two transverse rows of needles, one row being associated with transverse row of loopers and the other second row of needles being associated with a transverse row of gated hooks. Novel and low pile height tufted fabrics can be created with this configuration.
Abstract: A system and method for forming synthetic/artificial grass or turf products in which a series of tufts of artificial/synthetic grass filaments or yarns are formed in a backing material. The system generally will include spaced rows of needles mounted along a tufting zone and which are reciprocated through the backing to different penetration depths. A series of loopers and a series of hooks will be aligned with and will engage the needles in order to form cut and loop pile tufts of yarns having varying lengths in the backing material.

Abstract: A looper and needle configuration with lower set rear needles and corresponding loopers is provided to create more uniform low pile height yarns in a multiple pile height fabric. The tufting and tip shearing such fabrics will simulate woven fabrics.
