Patent number: 9708829Abstract: A refuge unit has an outer structure and an inner structure. The inner structure is rotatable relative to the outer structure about an axis of rotation. The inner structure is capable of accommodating one or more people. The inner structure is biased toward a substantially constant rotational position about the axis such that if the axis lies in horizontal plane, a floor of the inner structure also lies in a horizontal plane. One or more doors are provided at respective opposite entrances to the unit.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2014Date of Patent: July 18, 2017Inventor: Philip David Faigen

Publication number: 20130333608Abstract: A new configuration for the present invention provides a marine rescue craft completely spherically shaped. A marine rescue craft having an inner hull and an outer hull with both hulls of hemispherical shape. Universal bearings and/or roller bearings fastened to such inner hull wherein are pressed tightly against such outer hull permitting universal joint, coupling movement. Fastened by means to such inner hull a device consisting of a wheel or disk mounted so that it can spin rapidly about an axis that is itself free to alter in any direction. The orientation of the inner hulls axis is not affected by tilting of such outer hull thus providing a stabilized chamber for such rescued occupants within such inner hull.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2013Publication date: December 19, 2013Inventor: Michael Charles Bertsch

Publication number: 20120291691Abstract: An evacuation cabin includes an upper housing and a lower housing. The upper housing has a joining portion along a bottom edge of the upper housing and an opening at middle of one side of the upper housing for receiving an upper part of a water-sealable door. The lower housing has a joining portion corresponding and sealed to the joining portion of the upper housing such that the upper housing and the lower housing are sealed integrally and water-sealably, and an opening corresponding to the opening of the upper housing and for receiving a lower part of the water-sealable door. There are accommodated in the lower housing a power source acting as a weight to lower the center of gravity of the evacuation cabin so as to maintain the evacuation cabin in a stable condition when water floods the ground. A chassis, provided underneath the evacuation cabin, is mounted with an axle for installing wheels so that the evacuation cabin can stand stationary or be transported as a trailer by a mobile.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2011Publication date: November 22, 2012Inventor: Stanley Shao-Ying LEE

Patent number: 7424860Abstract: A boat compensates for roll over conditions by maintaining a user in an upright position at all times. The boat contains an external frame, an internal frame disposed for moving within the external frame, and a seat assembly attached to the internal frame and maintained in an upright position by movement of the internal frame within the external frame. At least three buoyancy chambers are attached to the external frame.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2006Date of Patent: September 16, 2008Inventor: Zahid Kamal Khuwaja

Patent number: 5713710Abstract: A transfer apparatus for transferring objects from a first location to a second location includes a transfer device adapted to be coupled to a lifting device. The transfer device comprises an outer structure which defines an inner space in which an object to be transferred may be located and securing device is provided to secure the object to the transfer device during transfer.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1995Date of Patent: February 3, 1998Inventors: Philip Anton Strong, Roger John Catherall

Patent number: 5623975Abstract: A cylindrical plug made of elastomeric material is introduced into a cylindrical cartridge. The rim of the cartridge is swagged-in to reduce the diameter of its opening to one-third of the cartridge internal diameter and of the closely matching plug external diameter. The cartridge is held in a chamber. A tube slidingly passing through the wall of the chamber comes in contact with the plug, and holds it within the container while the chamber is filled with a highly pressurized fluid. As the cartridge is filled with the pressurized fluid the plug is tightly held against the internal end of the tube. The tube is partially withdrawn drawing the plug against the swagged opening of the cartridge. As the tube continues to be withdrawn its internal open end is separated from the plug, and pressurized fluid begins escaping through the tube indicating that the cartridge is filled. The pressurized fluid can now be evacuated from the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1995Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Inventor: Anton K. Simson

Patent number: 4713030Abstract: A marine craft comprises an outer hull of completely spherical shape, an inner hull of hemispherical shape, universal bearings between the inner hull and outer hull supporting the inner structure in the outer hull and permitting universal movement, and a mass in the inner hull biassing it into a reference position. A plurality of spaced apart groups of four fins are provided on the exterior of the outer hull to procure propulsion of the craft along the surface of the water on rotation of the outer hull about any diametric axis. The four fins of each group are joined to each other in a generally cruciform configuration. The fins of any one such group are coplanar with a first pair of mutually perpendicular diametric axes of the outer hull while the fins of another one of such groups are coplanar with a different pair of mutually perpendicular diametric axes.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1987Date of Patent: December 15, 1987Inventor: John W.
