Abstract: A tank is coupled to a body assembly of the fuselage of an aircraft with a lug of the tank mounted on a pin coupled to a body assembly. The pin is marked using a special tool with a first location mark and a second location mark. The lug of the tank may be mounted on the pin. To verify that the tank is correctly located on the pin, the position of the lug may be compared to two marks disposed on the pin. When the respective marks are visible on either side of the lug, the tank is properly aligned on the pin and the tank can be secured to the body assembly. The process is particularly helpful when the pin is located in an area that is inaccessible for direct observation or measurement after the tank is in place.

  • Patent number: 9732815
Abstract: A brake stroke logging indicator for determining brake stroke condition on a vehicle braking system comprising a moveable logger within a housing which logger can be moved within the housing from an initial position to a moved position, by the pressure from a brake pushrod. After the pressure from the brake pushrod has been released however, the logger remains in position in the housing. As such, the logger indicates the distance of the longest brake stroke traveled since the system was reset, without the need of a second person, or brake pedal jamming device. The indicating logger will always indicate the longest stroke traveled, where the driver has no need to hold the brake pedal down for inspection. Moreover, when the vehicle is stopped the indicating logger will indicate other mechanical problems that normally can be detected only when the vehicle is in motion.

Abstract: A tire pressure indicator for visual observation of tire pressure including a screw-on cartridge containing a spring-biased piston with a movable shield which covers a central indicator pilot when tire pressure is up to requirements. When pressure is below what it should be, the piston retracts to allow the shield to expose the indicator pilot to the view of an observer, thus serving as a warning that inflation is required. The cartridge is composed of three elements: a screw on base, intermediate element and a transparent sealed top cap. A cup-shaped vessel is movable in the intermediate and top cap sections in response to a subjacent diaphragm and pressure in the tire.

  • Patent number: 5010962
Abstract: Certain earthworking vehicles are often provided with the ability to change work implements to enable them to perform a variety of operations. In many instances, the coupling mechanism between the work implement and the frame structure of the vehicle that supports them is designed such that the implements may be mounted and removed quickly. During the mounting of the implement upon the support frame, there is no means by which an operator can be sure that the proper attachment has been achieved. A visual inspection of the mounting apparatus or some sort of testing maneuvering of the support frame is required to be sure the work implement is securely attached. The mounting apparatus of the present invention provides a means by which a proper coupling between the work implement and the support frame is positively indicated. This indication can only be attained when the respective components are aligned in a manner that will allow a proper attachment.

Abstract: Refractory, gas-permeable bubbling plugs for a vessel containing a molten metal have a cold end remote from the molten metal and a hot end facing the molten metal. The hot plug end is subject to wear by the heat radiated from the molten metal to leave a remaining plug size after wear, and such plugs comprise at least one measuring probe displaying the remaining plug size. According to the invention, the measuring probe comprises a small tube having a tip extending into the plug and spaced a predetermined distance from the cold plug end, and an end section protruding from the cold plug end, a wire movably mounted within the small tube, a spring preloading the wire, a connection connecting an end of the wire to the tip of the small tube and detachable by the effect of the radiated heat, and an optical display unit attached to the wire in the protruding end section of the measuring probe tube.

  • Patent number: 4989537
Abstract: A brake wear indicator for an air brake system that includes an actuator having a diaphragm adapted to move within the actuator in response to air pressure, and a push rod mechanically coupled to the diaphragm and extending from the actuator through an opening in the actuator wall. The brake wear indicator comprises marking means having a generally cylindrical outer surface, a longitudinal axis, a distance indicator on the outer surface, and means for securing the marking means to the push rod within the opening. The marking means thereby provides a visual indication of the position of the push rod along such axis at the opening. In a preferred embodiment, the marking means comprises a tubular member having an internal diameter large enough to accommodate the push rod, and an outside diameter small enough to permit the tubular member to move through the opening, and a flange having an outside diameter too large to fit through the opening. An indicator formed integrally with the push rod is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for honoring the Flag and Nation for which it stands is accomplished by having a weather cap and protective flag housing upon a flag staff such that a cabling and winching system will, via a pulley and bar-ring supporting, spring-return, slidingly captured, internal staff insert, move the housing and insert in opposite directions along the staff, the housing enveloping the Flag, the Flag being furled along the staff by a flag attached, flying flag cord passing through the moving ring, until the housing mates with the weather cap, protecting the Flag. Reversing the winch lowers the housing, permits the spring-return insert to move, unfurling the Flag, thus honorably displaying the Flag.

The invention utilizes a first movable member (32) which is movable along a longitudinal axis between first and second positions, the first position indicating that the shaft is connected to the rotary source of power and the second position indicating that the shaft is not connected to the rotary source of power and a second movable member (34) which is movable along a longitudinal axis between first and second positions, the second member being adjacent to the first member with the longitudinal axes being parallel. A locking mechanism (36) locks the first and second movable members longitudinally with respect to each other when the input shaft is coupled to the constant speed drive transmission by the coupling mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4932476
Abstract: A level indicator for a disk harrow or the like having a motorized on-the-go leveling adjustment. A small diameter flexible cable is attached to the spring retainer which bears against one end of the coil spring on an adjustable link structure located between pivoting hitch structure and the adjustable ground wheels. The opposite end of the cable is attached to a slide which is free to move vertically in a bracket fixed to the motor mounting bracket. The weight of the slide maintains tension on the cable and as the motor is activated to move the spring retainer relative to the motor mounting bracket, the cable moves the slide vertically to provide an indication of the leveling adjustment. The consistent relationship between the spring retainer and the motor bracket at a given adjustment position provides an easy to read indication even though the entire leveling system may be moving relative to the machine frame.

  • Patent number: 4709654
Abstract: A device for indicating when a lug nut has come loose on an automobile wheel. In one embodiment, the device operates by detecting relative movement between the lug nut and the axle stud on which it is mounted. In a second embodiment, the detected relative movement is between the lug nut and the wheel itself. In the preferred embodiment, the device has a first member with an open-ended channel and second and third members slideably received in it. The second member operates in cooperation with the sides of the channel and one of the springs to hold the third member in a retracted or cocked position when the lug nut is in its preferred, tight position against the wheel. Thereafter, should the lug nut come loose and move relative to the stud, the second member will follow or move under the force of its spring outwardly to maintain contact with the free end of the stud.

  • Patent number: 4626121
Abstract: A ball and socket joint for automotive wheel suspensions or the like has a ball stud extending into a housing through its open end. The ball end of the ball stud rotatably bears against a load carrying bearing and a wear takeup bearing within the housing, in which is also mounted a spring urging the wear takeup bearing toward the load carrying bearing. The wear takeup bearing has a protuberance extending through an aperture in a cover closing the housing end opposite to its open end. Fitted over the protuberance, a wear indicator cap is normally engaged therewith in a position close to the housing cover and is sprung or otherwise preloaded in a direction away therefrom. When the protuberance recedes into the housing to such an extent that the wear of the joint exceeds an acceptable limit, the wear indicator cap travels from the housing under the preload and comes to a stop on the distal end of the protuberance, indicating the wear of the joint in a greatly amplified, visually recognizable manner.
