  • Patent number: 7426864
Abstract: A gauge of a vehicle instrument cluster includes a gauge defining a dial. A pointer is rotatably mounted in the instrument cluster and movable to a plurality of positions relative to the dial. A first scale of numbers is arranged sequentially around the dial and corresponds to a first range of vehicle speed. A second scale of numbers is arranged sequentially around the dial and corresponds to a second range of vehicle speed. The second scale of numbers corresponds to vehicle speeds that are faster than the first range of vehicle speeds and have like units. The first scale and the second scale of numbers are arranged in a radially offset relationship.

  • Patent number: 7034496
Abstract: A method of correcting a pointing position of a pointer rotated by a stepper motor includes the steps of: performing a prereset operation in which the pointer is rotated to a reset operation starting position that represents a pointing position of the pointer which is shifted by a predetermined amount in a plus direction of a scale from a reset position where a pin which is rotated in conjunction with a rotation of the pointer abuts against a fixed stopper; after the prereset operation, performing a reset operation in which the pointer is rotated in a minus direction of the scale to the reset position; and after the reset operation, performing a correcting operation in which the pointer is rotated in the plus direction up to a reference pointing position which is indicated by previously stored reference pointing positional information.

  • Patent number: 6710718
Abstract: An apparatus includes indicating instruments with slim profiles. The indicating instrument comprises a meter movement and a circuit board. The main body of the meter movement is situated in an aperture in the circuit board. With this placement, the front end of the body of the meter movement extends a distance in front of the circuit board and the back end of the meter movement body extends a distance behind the circuit board. Through appropriate selection and arrangement of any components on the circuit board, the circuit board can be constructed such that none of its components extend beyond the distance that the meter movement extends on either side of the circuit board. In this manner the space needed for the meter movement and the circuit board and its components collapses into the same area. A light plate may be added to the circuit board and meter movement. The light plate provides a structural framework for the indicating instrument.

  • Patent number: 4883128
Abstract: A guidance system for a tractor drawn farm implement for providing an indication to the operator of the tractor as to variance of the implement from a desired course includes a pair of horizontally extending feeler rods supported by a shaft and having free ends extending in a parallel spaced relation to sense the crop and rotate the shaft if the implement veers off course. A light sensitive photopotentiometer coupled to the shaft has its output voltage varied as a function of the angular position of the shaft. A signal processing circuit responds to variation in the voltage of the light sensitive photopotentiometer to drive the needle of an analog meter to indicate the direction and amount of deviation of the implement from the desired course, the meter being mounted on the tractor and within the line of sight of the operator.

  • Patent number: 4399425
Abstract: A circuit for use in aircraft navigation equipment includes operational amplifiers to drive a cockpit indicator such as an electric meter linearly over a first predetermined range, constantly over a second predetermined range, and out of view over a third predetermined range. A first operational amplifier circuit provides a linear drive to the indicator and a second operational amplifier circuit controls the constant drive current to the meter and defines first and second breakpoints which begin the constant in view and constant out of view responses, respectively. The circuit needs only a single input signal for operation.

  • Patent number: 4348813
Abstract: A microcomparator for elevation measurements having an amplification mechanism (3) which consists of a lever (31), the lever transforming the linear movement of a feeler (5) into a circular movement, and a lever arm (32) formed at least partly by calibrated rods (36) juxtaposed parallel to each other. The feeler (5) engages one of the calibrated cylinders (36) in accordance with the desired amplification factor without requiring altering the zero set for each change of scale. The amplification mechanism (3) and the display means (4) are fixedly connected with a carriage rotatably mounted on the housing (1) allowing a zero setting in such a manner that the display means always shows the same zero point as a function of the carriage (2). The microcomparator may also contain an automatic device for taking off measurements and a window containing a groove in which tolerance indicators may be carried.
