Patent number: 6925959Abstract: The invention relates to an indicating instrument, particularly for a motor vehicle, comprising an approximately circular scale (12), which is placed on a dial (5), provided for a physical quantity, and along which a pointer (10) can be displaced whereby being able to be rotatably driven about an axis of rotation. Additionally provided is a marking that indicates a particular area of the scale (12). The marking is placed on a part (27), which is situated underneath the plane of the dial (5) whereby enabling it to be rotatably driven about the axis or rotation of the pointer (10) into a control position. The dial (5) comprises, along the movement path of the marking, a window (13) through which the marking can be viewed from the front of the indicating instrument.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2002Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventor: Manfred Wehner

Patent number: 6710718Abstract: An apparatus includes indicating instruments with slim profiles. The indicating instrument comprises a meter movement and a circuit board. The main body of the meter movement is situated in an aperture in the circuit board. With this placement, the front end of the body of the meter movement extends a distance in front of the circuit board and the back end of the meter movement body extends a distance behind the circuit board. Through appropriate selection and arrangement of any components on the circuit board, the circuit board can be constructed such that none of its components extend beyond the distance that the meter movement extends on either side of the circuit board. In this manner the space needed for the meter movement and the circuit board and its components collapses into the same area. A light plate may be added to the circuit board and meter movement. The light plate provides a structural framework for the indicating instrument.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Inventor: Vincent H. Rose

Patent number: 6624608Abstract: In an indicating instrument for a vehicle including a step motor and a stopper unit for stopping a pointer at a zero position, a memory for pre-storing a zero-level electric angle as a correction value at which zero-return alternating signal becomes a zero level at least twice after a zero-return signal is supplied. When the phase of the zero-return alternating signal becomes the zero-level electric angle, the zero-return signal is stopped to provide induced voltage induced in the stator of the step motor. If the induced voltage is lower than a threshold voltage, it is judged that the pointer is stopped.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2002Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: Denso CorporationInventor: Takashi Komura

Patent number: 4507959Abstract: A Mach airspeed indicator instrument has a pointer that is rotatable around an airspeed scale and a Mach scale, the Mach scale itself being rotated in response to altitude change. A marker can be rotated around the scales via a cam that is manually rotated by an external knob. Rotation of the Mach scale is coupled via two vertical links and a lateral arm to rotate a gear ring which carries a peg. When the gear ring reaches a certain position the peg contacts and displaces a similar peg which rotates the marker with the Mach scale. The Mach value at which this occurs is adjusted manually from outside the instrument by a knob. Twisting the knob causes a vertical displacement of a mounting bracket on which the lateral arm is pivotted. The lateral arm is fixed at the end coupled with the Mach scale so that it rotates about that end causing rotation of the gear ring without affecting the Mach scale.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1982Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Smiths Industries Public Limited CompanyInventor: David J. Patent number: 4467643Abstract: An indicator instrument for aircraft may be operated in either of two modes. In an HSI mode, first indicia reflect heading, second indicia reflect selected course, and third indicia reflect course deviation. In a CDI mode, the first indicia reflect selected course, the second indicia assume a fixed position, and the third indicia reflect course deviation. A compass validity signal automatically triggers the changeover from HSI mode to CDI mode.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1982Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Rockwell International CorporationInventor: Kenneth W. Patent number: 4223402Abstract: A clock hand linkage and support assembly (10) for use with a clock drive mechanism (11) having limited driving torque and power supply and which rotationally increments a hand (14) in discrete intervals through a drive shaft (12) includes a hub (13) having a central portion (20) through which the drive shaft (12) may pass for free rotation about the drive shaft (12) and at least one angle bracket stay (24) for support of the hand (14). A compliant fastener (16) biases the hand (14) into flexible engagement with the angle bracket stay (24) preventing damage during shipment. A resilient drive linkage (18) is coupled to the drive shaft (12) by interference fit and is biased against the hub (13) by the compliant fastener (16) whereby the hand (14) may continually rotate with the hub (13) in controlled relation to the incremental movement of the drive shaft (12).Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1979Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: McNeil CorporationInventor: Charles O.
