Abstract: A device for preventing inadvertent headlight illumination includes a first panel for securing the device to an interior surface of a vehicle. A second panel is attached to the first panel and is movable with respect thereto for exposing a warning legend. The warning legend is disposed on one or both of the panels and is exposed to the view of the operator when the second panel is moved. The warning device also includes a motor vehicle door from within the vehicle. A cavity is formed in the door and a panel is received in the cavity. The panel is movable from a repose position to a warning position in which it also interferes with access to the interior door handle.

Abstract: A container for viscous materials having volatile components is constructed to have a substantial transparency. The container includes a tubular housing having first and second closing structures at opposite ends. The housing may be entirely constructed of amorphous nylon, but preferably is formed as a laminate having a relatively thin inner lining of high barrier amorphous nylon and an outer sleeve of low barrier plastic, such as polyethylene teraphthalate. The container is adapted for caulking compounds wherein the first closing structure is an end wall, nozzle and snout assembly and wherein the second closing structure is defined by a movable piston slideably received in the housing interior.

Abstract: A method and a device to aid in recollecting to retrieve an umbrella left in a building including an eye device on the handle of the umbrella with a identification plastic panel attached with a spring clip through the eye. The identification device is unclipped from the umbrella when the umbrella is left behind upon entrance to the building and is immediately clipped onto a key ring on which automobile or residence door keys are clipped. If the umbrella is forgotten, the next use of the key ring will automatically remind the user that the umbrella has been left behind. After the umbrella has been retrieved, the identification device is unclipped from the key ring and reattached to the eye device on the umbrella for the next use.

Abstract: A second cylindrical element with a side wall oriented generally parallel to the first plane is telescopically interconnected with a first cylindrical element and includes an upper surface. The second cylindrical element is rotationally displaceable between, first, second and third angular positions within a second plane orthogonal to the first plane and is telescopically displaceable between compressed and expanded positions. A biasing device biases the first and second cylindrical elements into the expanded position. A locking device maintains the first and second cylindrical elements in the first angular position when the first and second cylindrical elements are placed in the expanded position. The locking device enables the biasing device to displace the first and second cylindrical elements into the second angular position when the first and second cylindrical elements are displaced from the expanded position into the compressed position.

Abstract: A tamper indicator includes a first indicator element coupled to a first cylindrical element, a second indicator element positioned within a second cylindrical element and displaceable between a first position spaced apart from the first indicator element and a second position contacting the first indicator element. The first indicator element changes visual states when it contacts the second indicator element. A biasing device biases the first indicator element toward the second indicator element. A locking system maintains the first and second indicator elements in a locked, spaced apart configuration while the first and second cylindrical elements remain in a first location. The locking device enables relative movement to occur between the first and second indicator elements after the first and second cylindrical elements have been displaced from the first position into a second position.

Abstract: A closure counter for counting how many times a screw cap closure has been closed and opened is described, which is back in its initial position after N closing and opening operations.The closure counter includes an open-bottomed housing (10) and a likewise open-bottomed cap-shaped counting unit (11) arranged in the housing for rotation about its longitudinal axis (12), the rotary motion relative to the housing (10) is limited to a fraction 1/N of one full rotation, and a display unit (13) is arranged for rotation about the longitudinal axis (12) of the counting unit (11), the rotation of the display unit (13) relative to the counting unit (11) being allowed in only one direction by a ratchet (14), the click motion likewise corresponds to the fraction 1/N of one full rotation, and there is sliding fit between the housing (10) and the display unit (13).

Abstract: A dispensing package for cosmetic cream products which automatically and progressively indicates when the product has nearly been depleted by the user. The package includes a deformable fin cantilevered from the piston which contacts the underside of the wall on which applicating surface is formed and is thereby bent in the direction of an orifice in the applicating surface. Further advance of the piston causes the fin to progressively cross the orifice, becoming visible from the exterior. As the piston is further advanced towards the applicating surface, continued deformation of the fin causes it to advance fully across the orifice, thereby indicating to the user that the cream product is nearly depleted. The invention is well suited to dispensing packages which contain and dispense cream deodorants and antiperspirants.

Abstract: An emergency breathing and warning system (100) is disclosed to provide an emergency means of obtaining fresh air for individuals trapped within a building containing noxious fumes or smoke. The emergency breathing and warning system (100) includes flanged conduit (122) which passes through an exterior partition (125) or other structural element to provide access to fresh air external to the building. System (100) includes a first breathing apparatus (104) having a breathing mask (112) coupled to a breathing tube (106). Breathing tube (106) passes through conduit (122) to access the fresh air external to the building. First breathing apparatus (104) includes filter element (108) and coupling (110). Coupling (110) provides a means for providing fresh air to a second breathing apparatus (114) having breathing mask (118) and second breathing tube (116) which is frictionally engaged with coupling (110).

Abstract: A rotatable one-piece lens assembly that may be rotated relative to the instrument housing comprising a lens boss, integral with the lens, moving with the rotated lens to move the pointer to engage and test the switches. After the switch test the lens may then be rotated back to its normal position. In this manner the switches are tested without removing the lens from the instrument housing.

Abstract: There is disclosed a chamber indicator apparatus for a conventional revolver. The chamber indicator apparatus employs an aperture in the recoil plate which aperture abuts against the back end of the cylinder and allows one to view a given area of the cylinder via the aperture. The viewed cylinder area has emplaced thereon indicia indicative of the chamber which is aligned with the barrel of the gun. In this manner, the user can view the indicia via the aperture and hence identify the chamber accommodating the cartridge that is to be fired. Accordingly, the user now has the knowledge of the number of shots fired as well as the chamber being used at all times during the firing of a weapon.

Abstract: A headlights on reminder apparatus provides a motorist with a convenient arrangement of apparatus to hold his or her ignition key, with or without other vehicle and/or household keys, for convenient temporary storage in his or her pocket or purse, or at a place in his or her office or home. Then when operating his or her vehicle, with the headlights on, a tethered hook of this arrangement of apparatus is placed about a vehicle component, while the tether remains secured to the ignition key holder and the ignition key remains in the ignition switch. Upon leaving the car, the motorist must release the hook, thereby remembering to turn off the headlights. In one embodiment the tether extends directly between the hook and the ignition key holder, and in another embodiment the tether, in extending between the hook and the ignition key holder, forms a changeable size loop, by utilizing a receiving and guiding body. The tether is preferably made of a resilient stretchable retractable material.

Said mechanism comprises a male connector housing having an engaging portion; a female connector housing having cavity means for receiving said engaging portion therewithin; a tubular body having a bore contiguous to said cavity means and a plurality of flexible support arms extending into said bore toward a direction opposite to said female connection housing; and an indicator rod held to extend within said cavity means and said bore, said indicator rod being biased toward the male connector housing such that said flexible support arms covers the indicator rod when fitting engagement of both housing connectors is not completed but pushes open said flexible support arms upon completion thereof such that said indicator rod is exposed out the flexible arms.

Abstract: According to the invention, an inventory indicating device is provided having a slidable food type indicating member and associated date setting mechanism carried thereon. Indicia are provided along a guide track for selective alignment with a viewing aperture in the indicating member. With the indicia chosen according to a food type being stored, the date setting mechanism can be adjusted to reflect a storage date.

Abstract: Electricity meter fraud is detected by incorporating a unidirectional cyclometer-type register into a meter. The register is actuated each time the meter and cover assembly (which is factory sealed) is removed from its associated socket by an actuating arm assembly which is in contact with the socket. In one embodiment the actuating arm includes a rod which protrudes through an opening formed in the base of the meter and is biased into contact with the socket so that when the meter is removed from the socket the register is actuated. Alternatively, the actuating arm is connected to a sliding-type meter terminal which is actuated upon insertion and/or removal of the meter base with respect to the socket. In a further arrangement, a switch is provided in the base of the meter and is arranged to energize a solenoid to actuate the register whenever the meter is removed from its socket.

Abstract: A sterilization indicator device comprises a receptacle for containing a spore disc and a sealed ampule of culture medium. A closure is threaded onto the receptacle and cooperates with the receptacle to provide a passageway for the sterilization gases to reach the spore disc. Upon completion of the sterilization, the closure is threaded further onto the receptacle to fracture the ampule and cause the nutrient to come into contact with the spore disc. At the same time an indicator flag is moved from an initial position to a second position to indicate that the device has been activated. Also, a seal is provided between the closure and the receptacle to seal off the spore disc from exposure to ambient air during incubation of the spore strip.

Abstract: A counting device to indicate a current score and intended to be worn by an individual participating in a sport. The device comprises annular indicator organs (1,2) provided with symbols (5) to indicate the score and an organ (7) with a read-off point (15). The indicator organs can be moved in relation to the read-off point so that different symbols can be advanced to that position. The main part of the device consists of soft, flexible material, preferably being some form of textile material. The device thus forms a soft, flexible, annular loop having a circumference such that it may be worn around the wrist, for example.

Abstract: A timing attachment for a relay that is programmable to provide an ON Delay or an OFF Delay operation of a pair of switches having either normally open or normally closed contacts. The attachment includes a housing that is mountable in either of two positions on an assembly that is attached to the relay to program the OFF and ON Delay timing functions and indicia on the switches that indicate the contact operation of the switches when the switches are inserted in sockets in the attachment. A cover for the attachments has openings there through that expose indicia on the switches indicating the normally open and normally closed operating condition of the switches when the switches are inserted into the sockets and a slider that is movable along a rear surface of the cover to positions indicating the programmed operation of the attachment and the mode of operation of the switches when the attachment is mounted on the relay.

Abstract: A portable alarm is provided with a smoke detecting mechanism and circuit connected to an audible signal activated on the presence of smoke and all contained in a compact housing. To this conventional combination the invention interposes a connector means in the circuit between the detector and alarm which connector means includes a highly visible elongated external hanging electrical lead that is plugged into an opening in the housing to complete the circuit through the electrical lead thus, at all times, conspicuously indicating the armed/unarmed condition of the alarm.

Abstract: A temperature control cost monitor and method uses temperature responsive means with a visible display calibrated in terms of percentage savings or increased costs above and below a standard temperature. The display can be a temperature sensitive liquid crystal array and overlay with transparent percentage indicia, a liquid height thermometer with associated percentages indicated on or adjacent the thermometer, or another temperature indicator calibrated in this way. The calibrations are based on the climate in which the monitor is used. The monitor can indicate savings and excess cost of both heating in winter and air conditioning in summer.

Abstract: This invention relates to a hand simulator usable for hand sign or signal. The hand simulator comprises a palm portion of cushiony material and five finger portions of cushiony material integrally extending from the palm portion. The five finger portions are normally extended and spaced at their finger tips. The palm portion has a plurality of holes provided therein. The finger portions are selectively inserted into the corresponding holes to give a manual sign or signal.

Abstract: A dialable indicator comprising a lockable enclosure housing a rotatable drum. The outside surface of the drum is contoured to define a plurality of tag-holding stations. A window in the hinged cover of the enclosure allows viewing of one tag-holding station. The drum is biased by a coil spring against one side of the enclosure which is provided with a restriction against rotation of the drum. The drum must be pushed sideways against the spring before it can be moved to display an alternate tag-holding station. Spare tags can be stored in cavities running longitudinally within the drum. A locking mechanism mounted on the cover provides a restriction against lateral movement of the drum when the cover is closed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the calibration of a thermostat used for controlling the temperature of an oven. Calibration is provided for in the invention by two slots cut out in the oven wall or range faceplate through which screws pass to mount the thermostat to this wall or faceplate. Also passing through this wall or faceplate is the operating shaft of the thermostat to which the control knob will be attached. The screws further position an indicating dial. The screws may be loosened to allow the thermostat to be rotated relative to the oven wall. The indicating means is rotatable with the thermostat relative to the oven wall. A reference point is provided on the oven wall so that the amount of recalibration is readily determined. The present thermostat provides a novel calibration arrangement.

Abstract: A casing for holding a key in one of two pivoted positions. The key pivots about an axis extending along one edge thereof when a lock is turned by the user of the key. An indicator may be attached to the key for extension through a small opening in the casing or housing when the key is in one position and for retraction below the level of the casing periphery when the key is in the opposite position. In a second embodiment, a portion of the casing may be pierced along three edges and arranged so that, when the key is in one position, the pierced portion is pushed above the casing periphery and, when the key is pivoted to the second position, the pierced portion is coextensive with or below the casing periphery. In a third embodiment, an indicator may be pivotally fastened in position between halves of the casing for movement (a) above and (b) even with or below the periphery of the casing when the key is pivoted.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an indicator system and linkage for a fireplace damper whereby the open and closed modes of a fireplace damper are readily indicated without the necessity of inspecting the damper itself. The apparatus includes a series of links which alternatively expose a pair of indicators which reveal the mode that the damper door is currently in.

Abstract: A fireplace damper position indicator for indicating whether the damper to the flue is open or closed to prevent building a fire with a closed damper or leaving the damper open allowing air to escape from the room. The device briefly is a magnetic holder to attach to the fireplace lintel and a hanger pivotally secured to the holder to connect to a sign. The sign has indicia indicating "open" on one side and "closed" on the other side such that when the fireplace damper is open the sign is turned to read "open" indicating the damper is open.

Abstract: A device for reminding an automobilist to turn off the headlights before exiting the automobile which comprises a plug removably attached to the headlight control knob and means for removably attaching the same plug at a point near the door handle whereby the automobilist will be reminded to remove the plug from the headlight knob when operating the knob and to attach the plug to the door handle where it will be sensed when the automobilist grasps the handle in order to open the door.

Abstract: A steel rule first die is made by mounting steel rule elements, and other shearing elements if desired, in a die block in known manner. A punch die blank is mounted on a support having means for aligning the blank with such shearing elements. One or more layers of adhesive tape of predetermined thickness are applied to the shearing side face of the shearing elements to define a clearance-producing layer thereon. Foamed plastic blocks are adhered to the punch blank so as to form defined areas on its face opposite the shearing elements of the first die, and an adherent impressionable soft layer of hardenable resin is applied to such defined areas. The first die is then assembled in aligned relation with the punch die blank, with its shearing elements impressed deeply in the soft resin layer so as to form wide edge faces in such layer against the clearance-producing layer of tape on the shearing side faces of the shearing elements.

The apparatus comprises an indicator means supported within a hollow handle portion of the razor and slidable to selected positions along the length thereof for alignment with numbered indicia on the handle to permit monitoring the number of times that the razor has been used.The apparatus provided may be used with razors of either the reusable or disposable type and can be incorporated into such razors with only minor alteration of the razor design.

Abstract: An electrical switch including a fixed contact, a movable contact and means for moving the movable contact into and out of engagement with the fixed contact. A first legend indicative of one of the operative states of the switch is carried by a fixed part of the switch and a second legend indicative of the other operative state of the switch is carried by a part movable relative to the fixed part. The movable part is movable between a position wherein the first legend is revealed and the second legend is obscured and a position wherein the movable part obscures the first legend and the second legend is revealed. A resilient arrangement moves the movable part to one of the positions and there is provided a releasable latch arrangement for retaining the movable part in the other of the positions against the action of the resilient means.

Abstract: A portable device to determine highway marker locations including an enlarged disc dial having graduated scale markings on each side thereof and therearound representing increasing and decreasing highway mileage markers, respectively, and smaller disc dials superposed on either side of and centrally rotatably and lockably mounted thereon. The latter are provided with scale markings therearound representing vehicle odometer readings. To keep track of a vehicle's highway location, the user visually notes the last highway marker passed and rotates the small dial until the last two digits of the vehicle odometer reading indicated on the dial scale are aligned with the scale marking on the appropriate large intermediate dial (either increasing or decreasing, depending on direction of travel) corresponding with that mile marker, and the three discs are locked thereat.

Abstract: A response tracer audio equalizer booster amplifier unit having graphic display of frequency response characteristics for variably boosting the power of output signals from an audio frequency signal source to speakers of a stereo sound system or the like, having a cabinet enclosing audio amplifier circuitry for variably boosting the audio signal at plural frequency bands in the audio spectrum, a manually adjustable slide control for each band adjustable along horizontal fore-and-aft paths for varying the signal boosting at the frequency bands, and a graphic display window having markings for the frequency bands and a continuous flexible curve indicator wire variably shaped to simulate a frequency response curve. Motion translating flexible coupling members are moved by the slide to shape the wire to indicate the frequency response curve.

Abstract: A mine safety inspection indicator including a plurality of rotatable wheels having indicia printed on one side thereof and attached to a panel having windows therein so that the indicia is selectively visible through the windows, and further including slideable indicators whose position is correlated with indicia for giving further information, the wheels and slideable indicators including printing members cooperable with recording paper and a pressure member so as to provide a permanent record of a mine safety inspection; the device also includes a slideable warning panel which may be moved to a position out of view or moved to a visible position for giving a warning of a dangerous condition in a mine.
