Patent number: 5043187Abstract: A method whereby a coating layer is formed on an outer surface of a cylindrical substrate by dipping the cylindrical substrate in a coating solution containing dissolved material, and vertically removing the cylindrical substrate from the coating solution. The lower end portion of the substrate which has a thick portion as a sag formed by a run of the coating solution on the outer surface of the substrate is brought into contact with a tapered outer surface of a member having said tapered outer surface immediately after the substrate is removed from the coating solution. Thus, the thick portion is transferred from the lower end of the substrate to the tapered surface. Then, a solvent of the dissolved material is sprayed to an inner wall surface of the substrate while a gap is formed between the lower end of the substrate and the tapered surface, thereby removing the material from a lower end face and the inner wall surface of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1989Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Masashi Takahashi

Patent number: 4871588Abstract: A method of coating embossed panels having embossed panel portions which are offset in generally parallel planes. A liquid accent coating is applied to the panels as they are moved along a predetermined path. A roll is reverse rotated to wipe liquid coating from the high points of the embossed panel surfaces, creating a high level of contrast with the relief portions where a greater amount of coating remains. The rolls do not wipe the steps between panel portions so that the steps are more heavily coated, to create a dark shadow line. Doctor blades strip coating from the roll, except in those portions that do not contact the panel steps. Vacuum removes excess coating from the stepped areas of the panels and also from those portions of the rolls not contacted by the doctor blades. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1988Date of Patent: October 3, 1989Assignee: Abitibi-Price CorporationInventors: Jared G. Cuddy, William H. Patent number: 4765270Abstract: A decorative coating machine is disclosed. The machine includes a rotary work table having workpiece fixtures mounted on its periphery. A spray gun assembly is positioned adjacent the work table for applying paint to the workpieces. A wiping assembly is also positioned adjacent the work table periphery and includes a web of wiping material which travels along a path defined by a plurality of horizontal rollers. Solvent is applied to the web of wiping material. As the painted workpieces travel below the rollers, a predetermined area of paint is removed from the workpieces mounted on the fixtures.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1987Date of Patent: August 23, 1988Assignee: Deco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Elmer L. Patent number: 4733476Abstract: A synthetic brick wall facing on an existing wall is made by applying to the degreased wall an aqueous acrylic resin emulsion which when dry is then coated with an aqueous creamy mixture of portand cement, lime and perlite. Horizontal scoring of the cementitious wall surface to simulate bricks is accomplished by nailing to the wall two vertical guides having slots, inserting a straight member into selected slots and scoring horizontally along the upper edge of the straight member. The vertical guide comprises two sections of identical construction which nest in one another and are detachably connected by a bolt extending through pre-formed holes.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1987Date of Patent: March 29, 1988Inventor: Henry Schiffer

Patent number: 4623572Abstract: A method and apparatus for the production of napped surfaces that are textured lightly and irregularly. The surface of a substrate is coated with an adhesive and then covered with short textile fibers to form a layer of nap. After the adhesive hardens, the nap layer is subjected to mechanical deformation by permitting a plurality of balls made of a resilient material to bounce on the layer. The apparatus includes a panel of backing material support for the substrate, such as a panel of material which is to be treated and which already has a nap layer on its surface. Below the support is disposed a vibrator mechanism which causes the support together with the panel of material disposed thereon to vibrate. Above the support and the panel of material disposed thereon, there is a treatment chamber having lateral partitions and an impact ceiling. Within the treatment chamber there is a plurality of balls made of a resilient material.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1984Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: Flachglas AGInventors: Hans U. Patent number: 4598302Abstract: Disclosed is a transfer type recording apparatus wherein after transferring-material borne on a support is transferred onto a recording medium by a transfer forcing means, the support from which the transferring-material has been partially removed by printing is again coated with transferring-material. The apparatus includes transferring-material removing means for removing transferring-material applied to said support while maintaining said transferring-material molten, said transferring-material removing means removing transferring-materials applied to two side margins of said support, thereby forming regions on both sides of a transferring-material coated surface on said support which are not coated with transferring-material.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1985Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Assignee: Kyocera CorporationInventors: Ron Swidler, Dale Ploeger
