The strand engagement device is secured to the applicator head and includes an actuating assembly and an engagement arm connected to the actuating assembly. The engagement arm is configured to engage the strand and move between a first position and a second position in response to actuation of the actuating assembly. The method of controlling the strand engagement device includes receiving an input signal including content, determining the content of the input signal and operating the strand engagement device in response to, and based on the content of, the input signal.

    Abstract: A paper coater includes a frame, an entry guide roll and an exit guide roll both carried by the frame and along a path of travel of a continuous paper sheet. The paper coater includes independently controllable hot wax applicators carried by the frame between the entry and exit guide rolls. Each independently controllable hot wax applicator includes a press roll, an engraved applicator roll opposite the press roll so that the continuous paper sheet is therebetween, and with the engraved applicator roll extending into a hot wax reservoir to pick up hot wax. Each wax applicator includes a doctor blade adjacent the engraved applicator roll to control a thickness of hot wax. At least one selectively operable positioner relatively moves the press and engraved applicator rolls between active and idle positions. The paper coater provides different wax application rates and can be reconfigured relatively quickly between different application rates.

    Abstract: A dual-arm wafer hand-off assembly includes a pair of pickup arms for transferring wafers within a wafer processing system. The two pickup arms are adapted to move such that the wafer on one of the arms can be positioned over the other arm and handed off. In one version, a Bernoulli-style wand translates along a linear guideway and may be positioned over a paddle-style pickup arm. The wafer carried by the Bernoulli wand can be handed off to the paddle by shutting off the flow of gas from the Bernoulli wand jets. The two pickup arms may be mounted on linear slides and adapted to translate between a load/unload chamber and a processing chamber, or the guideway may be adapted to rotate to allow transfer of wafers to multiple processing chambers in a cluster system. One of the pickup arms is preferably an all-quartz Bernoulli-style pickup arm having a proximal arm portion and a distal wand.

The solidified polyimide film forms a weir, thus preventing the polyimide solution which has not dried yet from flowing out toward a peripheral edge portion.

The applicator assembly is automatically withdrawn when the supply of cans is not present and can be manually withdrawn by the operator to prevent application of base coat material to cans or empty mandrels. The paster roll has one or more wells stretching along it that are topped up with paste at a point within the pasting cylinder body, while the parts of the outer face of the roll between the wells are stripped and kept clear of the paste.

The striper heads 30 may be of interchangeable widths. A stop 13 is the only part retaining all heads.

    Abstract: Stiffeners in the form of spaced, narrow bands or lines of flowable, quick-setting material are applied to one side of a moving paper web to be used as computer paper. The stiffeners are applied either immediately before or during the time the paper web is partially wrapped around a cylindrical drum so that the material will set to a solidified condition while it is on the drum to set up a molecular pattern in each stiffener line, causing the paper web to be inherently biased in one direction. Guide means is provided for directing the paper web onto and off the drum. The material may be applied by applicator guns or wheels as the paper web moves through a rotary printing press and as it moves toward a line hole punch apparatus, perforating means and a fan-folding mechanism.
