  • Patent number: 7691450
Abstract: Two sprayer units are arranged along a conveyer. A coating surface of a panel conveyed by the conveyer is divided into four coating areas. Then, the sprayer units reciprocate parallel to the conveying direction and coat the individual coating areas. At this time, at the boundaries of the coating areas, the positions of the turning paths for reciprocation of the sprayer units are shifted from the front side to the rear side in the conveying direction and step-like coating trajectories are formed. As a result, the size of the area coated by each of the sprayer units can be expanded.

  • Patent number: 5733376
Abstract: Apparatus for sequentially coating opposite major surfaces of a workpiece such as a printed circuit board and wherein the amount of manual handling is significantly reduced. Boards are arranged end-to-end preferably in closely spaced fashion upon a conveyor having an adjustable drive. First and second spray assemblies provide a low pressure spray having a substantially oval-shaped spray pattern and are arranged upon guide tracks to move in a reciprocating fashion in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the conveyor for coating opposing surfaces of the workpiece. The speed of movement of the spray heads and the extreme ends of the range of movement are adjustable by controlling the operation of a drive motor to create a substantially Z-shaped spray pattern on the workpiece with the size of the Z-shaped pattern being a function of the conveyor speed spray head assembly, drive speed and range of movement of each spray head assembly.

  • Patent number: 5387284
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for forming coreless paper roll products are disclosed. Coreless paper roll products are formed by slitting a paper web to form web segments having side edges. The web segments are then wound about an elongated winder shaft. During winding of the paper web, liquid is applied to the web segments only at the side edges thereof while maintaining the web segments free of liquid between the side edges. When the rolls are formed and stripped from the winder shaft, the openings located at the ends of the roll at the roll central aperture will be well defined and allow ready insertion of a dispenser spindle. All the material of the roll can then be dispensed.

  • Patent number: 5248375
Abstract: Two parallel webs of wrapping material are advanced toward the inlet of a wrapping mechanism in a twin cigarette rod making, filter rod making or like machine adjacent a paster with two wheel-shaped rotary applicators which apply strips of adhesive to selected marginal portions of the respective webs. The applicators receive adhesive from discrete rotary adhesive supplying members which, in turn, receive adhesive from a tandem pump. The applicators are installed at a level below the wrapping mechanism to reduce the likelihood of contamination of such mechanism by sprays or droplets of adhesive. The webs are draped around discrete tobacco-containing or filter material-containing rods, and the adhesive-coated marginal portions of the webs are folded over the other marginal portions to form seams which extend in parallelism with the axes of the resulting cigarette rods or filter rods.

  • Patent number: 4619842
Abstract: An advancing optical fiber (22) is marked with a plurality of spaced indicia along its longitudinal axis. The indicia are applied by an applicator wheel (56) in the form of a disc which is mounted for rotation about an axis which is transverse to the path of travel of the optical fiber. The wheel has a plurality of marking teeth (70-70) arranged about its periphery with each tooth provided with a groove (72) for receiving increments of length of the optical fiber as it is moved rotatably. As the wheel is turned, each tooth in seriatim compresses a porous, resilient pad (80) which is disposed to one side of the wheel in a chamber through which the optical fiber is advanced to cause ink from the pad to be received in the groove of each tooth. Further rotation of the wheel causes ink to be transferred from each groove to the moving fiber. The pad is supplied with ink through a tube by a peristaltic pump (90).

  • Patent number: 4445961
Abstract: A bottle labeling machine has a turret rotating on a fixed axle. The turret has circumferentially spaced apart curved glue pallets mounted on individual pallet shafts supported in oscillatable drive members, respectively, which drive the shafts. The pallets orbit and oscillate to pick up glue from a roller, pick up a label next and deposit the label on a cylinder from which it is transferred eventually to a bottle. The drive members are externally splined axially and are each surrounded by an internally axially splined clutch member. The drive member has a smooth bore to permit it to rotate on a shaft that is driven in oscillating fashion as the turret rotates.
