Patent number: 9016232Abstract: A paper coater includes a frame, an entry guide roll and an exit guide roll both carried by the frame and along a path of travel of a continuous paper sheet. The paper coater includes independently controllable hot wax applicators carried by the frame between the entry and exit guide rolls. Each independently controllable hot wax applicator includes a press roll, an engraved applicator roll opposite the press roll so that the continuous paper sheet is therebetween, and with the engraved applicator roll extending into a hot wax reservoir to pick up hot wax. Each wax applicator includes a doctor blade adjacent the engraved applicator roll to control a thickness of hot wax. At least one selectively operable positioner relatively moves the press and engraved applicator rolls between active and idle positions. The paper coater provides different wax application rates and can be reconfigured relatively quickly between different application rates.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2012Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Profero Systems, Inc.Inventors: Thomas B. Patent number: 8789491Abstract: A cap sheet metal (and pivot sheet metal) is configured to be able to move linearly with a cap arm (and an arm stay) via engagement between an engagement hole and a fitting shaft. Furthermore, the cap sheet metal (and the pivot sheet metal) can move pivotally with respect to the cap arm (and the arm stay) using the fitting shaft, which engages with the engagement hole, as a pivotal shaft. Thus, even if, for example, the direction of biasing toward the applying roller deviates or a positional relationship with the applying roller deviates slightly, the liquid holding member moves and pivots in the bias direction depending on the deviation. As a result, the contacting pressure of a contacting portion on the applying roller can be made uniform.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2009Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hideaki Nagahara, Tetsuyo Ohashi, Hiroshi Yoshino, Takeshi Sekino, Keisei Hakamata

Patent number: 8230804Abstract: This liquid applicator covers all sides of substantially flat and dimensional surfaces of boards or siding with stain or paint in a uniform manner. The applicator has an upper and lower series of rollers and wiping agents, a set of vertical rollers, and a paint collection assembly. Preferably, some of the upper rollers and some of the lower rollers will consist of horizontal wet-rollers which receive liquid from an outside source. The remaining rollers are horizontal dry-rollers which absorb, smooth and buff the surface. The vertical rollers coat the side aspects of a board. All rollers spread paint rapidly over all board surfaces in a uniform manner. The main components have adjustment features: the rollers move vertically and toggle clamps and the like permit custom selection and sizing for each of the rollers and wipers. A catch pan has a drain plug at or near its lowest point.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2009Date of Patent: July 31, 2012Assignee: P&B Construction, Inc.Inventor: Michael Barbieri

Patent number: 6012503Abstract: An adjustable gluing apparatus for dispensing glue onto articles, such as flaps of cartons on a packaging machine. A glue dispensing head attached to a clamping block is moved along a bar by a rack and pinion gear arrangement. The bar has rack teeth, and the pinion gear and attached pinion shaft are supported by the clamping block, which has an aperture receiving the bar. Turning an adjustment knob connected to the pinion shaft adjusts the position of the clamping block relative to the bar. Rotation of the pinion shaft is selectively allowed or prevented by a locking knob threadably engaged with the pinion shaft. The clamping block is further secured to the bar by a screw in the clamping block which contacts the back side of the bar to provide teeth-engagement adjustment for the rack and pinion gear teeth. Patent number: 5743964Abstract: A roll coating system for coating strip metal having a plurality of coating head rolls mounted on support sleds capable of linear translation along a single rail. Precision linear actuators are located between each support sled and between one of the sleds and a fourth sled. A splice traverse mechanism actuated by a piston/cylinder displaces the fourth sled. Each of the rolls can be independently displaced or the entire head can be displaced by the splice traverse mechanism. Force measurement sensors are located in the support sleds for an accurate measurement of nip pressures between the respective rolls. The elastic response of the support sleds may be varied to alter the natural resonant frequency of the coating system. Patent number: 4424093Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for the production of stamp or photo album leaves with slip-in pockets for the stamps. Two transparent sheets in web form are linearly bonded to one another, and slip-in pockets are stamped out of the bonded sheet material to form double sheet pockets joined along a linear edge. The slip-in pockets are stamped out of the double sheet web by a stamping tool assembly in a predetermined arrangement corresponding to the pocket placement intended for the album leaf, and holds them firmly in this arrangement by a partial vacuum. In the meantime, an adhesive has been applied to the album leaf in the places provided for the slip-in pockets. The album leaf is then brought into contact with the slip-in pockets held fast by partial vacuum on the stamping tool so that the pockets are secured to the album leaf.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1982Date of Patent: January 3, 1984Assignee: Leuchtturm Albenverlag Paul Koch KGInventor: Bernhard A.
