Coating Moving Mass Of Solid Particulate Work Patents (Class 118/303)
  • Patent number: 4274360
Abstract: Regeneration of clay-bonded used foundry sand for reuse instead of new sand. A dry mass of used sand is rubbed for such a length of time, is accelerated suddenly and delayed, and is freed continuously of fine components, until the fine matter, active bonding clay and oolitization degree fall below certain threshold values such that the regenerated product substantially gains the characteristics of new sand. An apparatus for regeneration treatment contains a horizontal revolving sand drum (10), an impact rotor (30) disposed inside said drum in the area of the fall stream (46) of the used sand and a pneumatic dust removal device (36) disposed in the inside of the drum. A chemical secondary treatment of the regenerated product can be carried out advantageously in the same installation in order to bind remaining fine matter to the surface of the grains of sand and simultaneously to seal the pores of the grains.

  • Patent number: 4272935
Abstract: A thermally-insulating, non-flammable, air-permeable insulation for installation in the field, for example, in closed cavities between the walls of a house. A multitude of individually preformed, foamed plastic particles are initially entrained in a carrier stream, and thereupon drenched with a settable film-forming, non-flammable, liquid substance, such as a sodium silicate solution. The liquid substance sets to form a film which covers and adheres the particles to one another to form a thermally-insulating dense structural aggregate mass having structural integrity, resistance to fire, and venting capability. A method of making and installing the insulation, and a preferred apparatus therefor, are disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for the two stage grinding of paper material with the controlled addition of dry and wet fire retardant chemicals to produce a desirable cellulose insulation material. The paper is first ground into coarse granules which are placed in a storage hopper and systematically fed by an auger into a fine grinder. At the same time that the cellulose material is introduced into the fine grinder, a controlled flow of dry fire retardant chemicals is continuously added and ground with the material. The resultant granular material is then transported by air in an upward direction where a solution of liquid fire retardant chemicals is sprayed in a concurrent direction with the flow so as to wet and saturate the cellulose material producing a fire retardant product. The wetted material, because of its adhering qualities, is directed through a corrugated flexible pipe section to storage.
