Abstract: Apparatus for applying a lining material to a conduit comprises an elongate flexible pipe for lining material. A dispensing nozzle is provided at one end of the pipe and the other end of the pipe is squeezed between a pair of driven rollers to expel the lining material through the dispensing nozzle as the pipe is drawn through the conduit. A pair of circular steel wire brushes are mounted on the pipe below the dispensing nozzle center the pipe in the conduit and also clean the side wall of the conduit ahead of the nozzle. The cross-sectional area of the pipe is calculated so that as the pipe is pulled back down the conduit it deposits an evenly distributed, predetermined amount of lining material on the side wall of the conduit.

  • Patent number: 4613528
Abstract: A method and apparatus of applying a protective coating to the inner cavities of vehicle body components comprises a frame supporting a plurality of spray guns which is adapted to mount in a locked position upon the vehicle panel to be coated. Sensors indicate the presence of the frame in a locked position and send a signal to an electro-pneumatic controller. • Patent number: 4490411
Abstract: An apparatus and method for metalizing the interior of pipes or tubes is disclosed. The base metal pipe or tube to be internally metalized is moved axially while simultaneously being rotated at a relatively high rpm. A first pre-heat means, preferably an induction heating means, heats a portion of the pipe and its interior to a first elevated temperature, and particles of the metalizing material are deposited into the interior of the pipe to be heated to said first elevated temperature. The rotation of the pipe distributes the fluidized particles into laminae which, under the further influence of centrifugal forces, automatically distributes the semi-fluidized particles effectively. The fluidized metalizing material is bonded together and to the body substrate by application of a second induction heat at a higher heat level or temperature at which bonding occurs between the laminae of metalizing material and between the metalizing material and the base material of the tube or pipe.

A plurality of rigidly connected, coaxially arranged fluid supply pipes are rotatably mounted in the housing and project from one end of the housing. Fluids are supplied to the housing through a plurality of non-rotatable supply pipes, pass through conduits provided by the interior of the inner rotatable supply pipe and by the annular section clearances between radially adjacent rotatable supply pipes, and are discharged through outlet conduits which are connected respectively to the projecting ends of the individual rotatable fluid supply pipes and which are supported at their ends at the outer end of a radial arm carried by the projecting ends of the rotatable fluid supply pipes.

  • Patent number: 4106964
Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting imbalance occurring in pneumatic tires during their manufacture. Correction is made by depositing on the inside surface of the tire, at a balance-correcting position, a measured quantity of an uncured, quick-curing, urethane or other liquid elastomer composition which bonds to such surface when cured, and curing the composition in place against the surface. The surface is cleaned in advance, as by washing, scrubbing, and/or abrading, to remove mold release agents and the like and to expose the bare rubber of the tire wall for bonding. The elastomer is desirably deposited in a pool, but may be dispensed in a stream of air or other gas directed toward the deposit. The air reduces the thickness of the pool and feathers its edges and thereby reduces the discontinuity between the deposited material and the tire surface, and promotes bonding.

  • Patent number: 4106760
Abstract: A gunning apparatus for repairing a furnace lining is provided with a spray pipe of non-circular hollow cross-section. The spray pipe of non-circular cross section slidably moves back and forth within a rocking sleeve by a slide mechanism while the spray pipe is non-rotatable relative to the slide mechanism and is rotatable only by the rotation of the slide mechanism, whereby the shooting pipe is manipulated without weakening the rigidity or strength thereof which usually occurs on a conventional circular shooting pipe which requires keyways for rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4092950
Abstract: An internal pipe coating apparatus for coating the interior surface of uncoated weld joints in an otherwise internally coated pipeline comprising a frame having wheels at the forward and rear ends thereof, the forward end being oriented or directed towards the uncoated weld joint to be coated, and a drive motor for driving one pair of wheels to move the coating apparatus towards and beyond the uncoated weld joint. A feeler mechanism is located at the rear end of the apparatus. Means are provided to elevate the feeler mechanism into contacting position against the internal surface of the pipe when the drive motor is actuated to move the apparatus in a forward direction. The feeler mechanism comprises a pair of electrically conductive arms adapted to bear against the internal surface of the pipe and to create a completed circuit through the pipe when the feeler arms engage the bare surface of the uncoated weld joint to stop the drive motor.

Abstract: A coating apparatus for coating the interior surface of a relatively long, narrow pipe without any portion of the apparatus contacting the interior of the pipe has been provided, and comprises a mobile vehicle carrying a traveling boom on which is mounted a coating or spraying device for coating the pipe, an adjustment mechanism for moving the boom relative to the vehicle and to align the boom with the pipe, and a driving and supporting mechanism for the boom which drives and also supports the boom as it moves into and out of the relatively long, narrow pipe. In addition, several alternative embodiments of spraying devices for the coating apparatus are disclosed which eliminate or reduce "ghosting" or "shading" problems frequently experienced in coating such pipe.

  • Patent number: 4036173
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sandblasting and coating the interior surface of pipe is provided. A plurality of legs extend outwardly from a central mounting plate and are adjustable in length and angular disposition to accommodate different sized pipe. The mounting plate has a central opening for receiving an elongated lance of either a painting or sandblasting tool. The lance carries a collar which is adapted to abut the mounting plate. A spring-biased locking pin on the mounting plate is received by the collar to releasably lock the two plates together. The method of the invention comprises positioning the aforedescribed device in one end of the pipe and then securing a rope of a length equal to that of the pipe to the device. Next, a lightweight bucket is positioned in front of the device and the rope is coiled inside the bucket. A blast of air is then passed through the lance to move the bucket the length of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 3960644
Abstract: A pipe lining apparatus for lining pipe in situ with a fiberglas reinforced plastic. The apparatus includes guide rollers for holding the apparatus centrally of the liner in the pipe as the apparatus is drawn through the pipe. Rotating sprays apply a resin and a resin hardening catalyst to the interior surface of the lining and a rubber tube following the spray heads forces the resin and catalyst into the fiberglas of the liner. Rotating rollers then apply pressure to the liner to force the liner into intimate contact with the pipe being lined. A finish coat of resin mixed with wax covered with the catalyst is then sprayed on the liner.
