  • Patent number: 11400479
Abstract: An apparatus for coating carpet webs in a coating apparatus with varying adhesives includes a controller, one or more sensors for detecting a volume of a puddle of the adhesive pooled in front of an application roller, and an electronic valve in fluid communication with each of a plurality of mixers. The electronic valve directs flow of the adhesive from any of the mixers to the coating apparatus. To switch from one of the adhesives to new adhesive as a next carpet web passes through the coating apparatus, the controller calculates a remaining length of the carpet web that can be coated with the adhesive in the puddle of adhesive based on the volume of the puddle, so that the puddle of the adhesive coats the carpet web, and then proximate a seam to the next carpet web, the new adhesive begins to coat the next carpet web.

A front block includes a portion which is projected toward the base member with respect to the back block, and a top face of the projected portion is processed into a curved face having a predetermined curvature radius. A top face of the back block, which is opposed to the base material, is processed into a flat face, and a plurality of discharging openings are provided therein for discharging a coating material therethrough. The base material first travels along the curved face of the front block. The base member then travels over the flat face of the back block substantially in parallel with the flat face, while the coating material is discharged through the discharging openings, thus forming a stripe-shaped coating film on the surface of the base material. The hopper has two openings which are aligned with one another and have a cross-sectional configuration corresponding to that of a corner bead. The device includes rubber panels for closing off a selected portion of the openings. In use, a corner bead is inserted through one of the openings, pushed through the hopper where joint compound adheres to the bead, and is extracted from the other opening. The rubber panels scrape off all but a thin layer of joint compound from the concave surface of the bead and forces the bead against the bottom of the hopper so as to permit only a thin layer of joint compound to remain on the convex surface of the bead.

Abstract: An inorganic article used as a container for holding a solution for crystal growth according to the present invention is provided by filling the pores of substrate having a porous inorganic structure with an inorganic material which has a melting point of 400.degree. to 900.degree. C. A liquid-phase epitaxy apparatus according to the present invention is comprised of a crucible made of the inorganic article or from a material selected from P-BN, quartz and sapphire and has an arrangement with less sliding contact. Thus, the dispersion of diffusive elements contained in a solution during the epitaxial growth is prevented. Accordingly, both the article and the apparatus of the present invention permit growth of crystals having high quality and less structural defects, thus contributing to the production of a semiconductor device made of materials having high vapor pressure.

Abstract: Apparatus particularly adapted for applying foamed treating liquor to a flat width of a traveling non-woven textile substrate includes a longitudinal tubular foam distribution nozzle one side of which has a plurality of closely-spaced staggered apertures for engaging and applying pressurized foam widthwise across the substrate and a driven drum opposed to the nozzle engaging widthwise the opposite side of the substrate for imparting traveling movement to the substrate. The drum and nozzle cooperate to compress the substrate therebetween in covering relation over the apertures to prevent lateral escape of the foam therefrom and to confine the emission of foam therethrough, thereby to uniformly control foam application across the substrate width as it travels by the nozzle. Limited contact of the apparatus with the substrate prevents frictional pulling and structural damage thereto. The drum is perforated for escape of the air component of the foam and to enhance foam penetration of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5099090
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for preparing electrically conductive traces on a circuit board using an additive technology. The traces are directly written in a serial process with each trace being able to be individually insulated. The apparatus includes an extrusion element for extruding a first material and a stage. The stage is for holding the extrusion element and the circuit board in relative proximity and for producing relative motion between the extrusion element and the circuit board in order to extrude the first material onto the surface of the circuit board along preselected paths to produce the electrically conductive traces. According to the method of invention, a first polymerizable material is extruded onto a circuit substrate support along preselected paths to form traces, and the first polymerizable material is polymerized, the first polymerizable material being conductive after polymerization.

  • Patent number: 5085891
Abstract: An edge sealing apparatus for composite boards comprises a heatable iron body having a bottom, presser surface formed with a shape or profile which conforms to that of the edge of the composite board to be sealed. In the method of edge sealing, the iron body mounts a slot nozzle formed with a discharge outlet having the same profile as the iron body and the edge of the board. The slot nozzle receives a sealing material such as hot melt thermoplastic adhesive from a dispensing device, and is effective to apply a coating of the hot melt adhesive along the entire surface area of the profile of the board edge. Immediately after the hot melt adhesive is applied to the edge of the board, the presser surface of the heated iron body presses or fuses such material therein to provide good penetration into the board edge and thus obtain a substantially complete seal.

  • Patent number: 5052338
Abstract: A syringe or other suitable dispensing device is coupled to conventional controls for dispensing viscous material such as adhesives or solder paste through a tip thereof. The syringe is supported on a motor driven carriage for movement along a Z axis in response to height control signals. A camera also mounted on the carriage generates output signals representative of an image of the surface of a workpiece such as a PC board. Circuity processes the output signals from the camera to determine when the image is maximally in focus and generates the height control signals necessary to maintain the tip of the syringe a predetermined constant height above the surface of PC board. This ensures the dispensing of uniform balls of solder paste or adhesive at various locations on the PC board despite warpage in the board.

Abstract: A system for applying .[.one-part thermal-cure.]. .Iadd.fluent .Iaddend.material, such as structural epoxy, includes apparatus for heating or cooling the epoxy to a temperature above or below ambient. A spirally coiled tube is suspended within a hollow enclosure by tube end fittings extending from axially opposed ends of the tube. An electrical heater and temperature sensor extend from opposed enclosure ends into the tube coils approximately centrally of the enclosure. The enclosure is filled with a heat transfer fluid that surrounds the coiled tubing. The fluid is connected through an inlet and outlet in the enclosure endwalls for circulation externally of the enclosure through a fluid chiller. A microprocessor-base controller receives input signals from the temperature sensor and a temperature adjustment mechanism, and provides outputs to the heater chiller and heater-exchange fluid pump and circulation valve, and to alarm mechanisms for indicating a high-temperature or low-temperature alarm condition.
