Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention is directed to aperture mask deposition techniques using aperture mask patterns formed in one or more elongated webs of flexible film. The techniques involve sequentially depositing material through mask patterns formed in the film to define layers, or portions of layers, of the circuit. A deposition substrate can also be formed from an elongated web, and the deposition substrate web can be fed through a series of deposition stations. Each deposition station may have an elongated web formed with aperture mask patterns. The elongated web of mask patterns feeds in a direction perpendicular to the deposition substrate web. In this manner, the circuit creation process can be performed in-line. Moreover, the process can be automated to reduce human error and increase throughput.

Abstract: A rotatable cover plate assembly 10 has a cavity 13 and a rotatable base plate assembly 12 has a cavity 42 with a semiconductor wafer 14 mounted therein. The cover plate assembly 10 comes down onto the base plate assembly 12 enclosing the semiconductor wafer 14 and a dispenser 28 in a chamber formed by the cavities 13 and 42. The cover and base plates 16 and 40 are rotated as a single assembly, and coating material dispensed by the dispenser 28 onto the semiconductor wafer 14. A flow regulator 25 coupled via an exhaust manifold 20 controls the rate of evaporate of solvent from the dispensed coating material.

Abstract: Material is deposited from an active shutter onto a substrate located in a processing chamber housing with a shutter target coupled to a shutter target assembly. A first target assembly located in the housing supports a target for physical-vapor deposition of a first material onto the substrate. A shutter is selectively moveable to extend into a closed or activated position and to retract into an open position. The shutter target assembly is coupled to the shutter such that when the shutter is in the closed position, the shutter target assembly is positioned to allow deposition of material from the shutter target onto the substrate. When the shutter is in the open position, the first target is positioned to deposit material onto the substrate. Alternating layers of materials may be deposited by the shutter target and first target by cycling the shutter between an open position and a closed position.

Abstract: A replaceable shielding apparatus provides a cost effective way of shielding a portion of a workpiece during processing. The apparatus includes a replaceable shield, made of comparable weight as the workpiece for allowing replacement of the shield in the same way as the replacement of the workpiece. With this feature, the replacement of the shield is a routine process and would not interfere much with the workpiece operation. The invention further includes a shield clamp for clamping the shield onto the workpiece. In a preferred embodiment, the invention further includes a non-reactive gas inlet for creating a pressurized cavity in the vicinity of the shielded portion of the workpiece.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an apparatus and method for reducing particulates in a semiconductor processing chamber. The apparatus comprises a shield for lining a portion of the interior of a vacuum processing chamber. The interior of the shield defines a shield passage. A heater element is disposed within the shield passage. A gas inlet is used for providing gases to the interior of the shield passage. The range of temperatures which may be used is wide and generally fitted to the process. For example, the invention may be used to provide a rapid cooldown or bakeout. Once the temperature is chosen, isothermal conditions can be maintained so as to minimize the thermal cycle stress, reducing cracking, peeling, etc.
