Abstract: Provided is an method of manufacturing an optical fiber tape core wire with which, even when the optical fiber tape core wire is separated into optical fiber wires, it can be determined which optical fiber tape core wire each optical fiber wire is associated with. A fiber running length adjustment device 13 adjusting the running lengths of the optical fiber wires 2 running from printers 8 (8A to 8D) to a tape forming device 11 is used to adjust the running lengths of all the optical fiber wires 2 between the printers 8 and the tape forming device 11 to a same length. By this adjustment, markings 6 formed on each optical fiber wire 2 (2A to 2D) can be aligned with the corresponding markings 6 formed on the other fiber wires 2 to the same position.
Abstract: A reinforced, variable strength, fluid applied, waterproofing and/or air barrier membrane system assembled in the field is described. The membrane can comprise two major components: a carrier fluid and reinforcement elements. The carrier fluid can comprise a polymer fluid, and the reinforcing elements can comprise a reinforcing fiber composition. The polymer fluid can comprise one or more of a variety of catalyzed or atmospherically cured resin-based or non-resin based fluid vehicles. The reinforcing fibers can comprise one or more of a variety of chopped-length synthetic or natural fibers of suitable tensile strength and elongation. The polymer fluid and the reinforcing fibers can be combined and sprayed onto many surfaces that need to be waterproofed, weatherproofed, or sequestered.
Abstract: A system and method for making a biomaterial device includes a support structure providing a shape for a biomaterial device. At least one applicator has a supply of biomaterial solution and is positioned along the support structure. The at least one applicator forms a biomaterial fiber by applying shear force to the biomaterial solution and delivering the biomaterial fiber to the support structure. A controller causes relative movement between the support structure and the at least one applicator, and the biomaterial fiber is arranged on the support structure according to the relative movement to form the biomaterial device. The biomaterial may be silk fibroin which may be wound onto a reciprocating and rotating mandrel. Control over the properties of the biomaterial device is achieved through appropriate selection of material processing, winding strategy, and post-winding processing.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing dried, chopped strands from a supply of continuous fiber strands by the direct deposition of wet, chopped strands ejected from a chopping assembly into a drying chamber is disclosed. A transition chute is interposed between the chopping assembly and the drying chamber to guide the chopped strands to pass directly into the drying chamber.

Abstract: An inert ultraviolet light reaction chamber is provided with a flow of liquid on its light transmitting wall surface. The fluid prevents the build up of light blocking deposits, controls the temperature, and filters out undesired portions of the spectrum.
