  • Patent number: 7832373
Abstract: A valve control apparatus of a diesel engine (1) is provided with an EGR valve (30), which is provided in an EGR passage (26) of the engine (1) and varies the flow rate of exhaust gas flowing through a passage (26) by carrying out an opening and closing motion, and an actuator (28), which executes a sticking avoiding operation for dissolving or preventing a sticking of a valve (30) by causing the valve (30) to move to and fro so as to open and close the valve (30) by a predetermined moving amount respectively in one direction and the other direction near a full-close position of the valve (30). The apparatus inhibits the sticking avoiding operation by the actuator (28) when an ignition OFF operation is carried out without starting an operation of the engine (1) after an ignition ON operation is carried out. As a result, it is possible to prevent a useless valve opening and closing motion and achieve power saving.

  • Patent number: 7757660
Abstract: A cross-sectional shape of a first intake passage is formed in a circular shape and a cross-sectional shape of a second intake passage is formed in a rectangular shape. Thus, an opening area of a second intake throttle portion can be made larger than an opening area of a first intake throttle portion even when the opening area of the first intake throttle portion is narrow and an intake air quantity supplied into a combustion chamber of an engine is small as in the case of engine start-up or engine idling operation. Accordingly, an intended strong tumble flow in accordance with a demand for improving a combustion efficiency in the combustion chamber can be generated in the combustion chamber while achieving the intake air quantity necessary during the engine start-up or the engine idling operation.

  • Patent number: 7707991
Abstract: An intake control device of an internal combustion engine in which an intake path of each cylinder is partitioned into an upper and a lower path and a tumble control valve and an intake pressure control valve are provided to open/close the upper path and lower path respectively. In a given driving condition, the intake air flow velocity in the lower path is increased by closing the tumble control valve, thereby generating a tumble flow in the combustion chamber. In this process, the intake pressure control valve is opened around start of an intake stroke and closed around its end to make intake pressure downstream of the intake pressure control valve higher than upstream of it to increase the difference between upstream and downstream intake pressures in the intake stroke. This increases the intake air flow velocity in the lower path and intensifies the tumble flow in the combustion chamber.

Abstract: A transmissible connecting mechanism having a cam plate and a lever are attached respectively to a lead air control valve shaft and an air-fuel mixture throttle valve shaft which are arranged so as to form an angle. A length of a contact element provided in the lever is extended in parallel to an axis of the air-fuel mixture throttle valve shaft, and the length of the contact element is such that the contact element and a cam surface formed in a cam plate are always brought into contact with each other. The lead air control valve shaft and the air-fuel mixture throttle valve shaft of the carburetor are connected in a transmissible manner, and it is possible to make a stratified scavenging two-cycle engine compact.

Abstract: An intake control valve of an intake device of an internal combustion engine comprises a given portion defined by an air intake passage that leads to a combustion chamber of the engine through an intake valve; a pivot shaft passing through the given portion; and a valve plate secured to the pivot shaft to pivot therewith within the given portion. The valve plate is pivotal between a close position to close the air intake passage and an open position to open the air intake passage. When the valve plate assumes the close position, the interior of the air intake passage downstream the valve plate is formed with mutually isolated first and second air flows that are separated and oriented to enhance a flow of air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 7448357
Abstract: The present invention utilizes a single shaft with cam-actuated control valves and one linear solenoid for control of air flow control vales in the air induction system for a V-type engine. According to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the single shaft and one sensor are utilized to activate all control valves. Additionally, the present invention can also be used in in-line engines. Advantageously, the present invention utilizes one moving shaft and sensor to activate all control valves on both sides of the intake manifold without restricting air flow by locating the shaft in the middle of the manifold—lower housing. Further, the control valves are not attached with screws, thus eliminating a tolerance stack-up at assembly problem. The air induction sub-system can be manufactured with metals or plastic, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: A retainer device is provided suitable for supporting a valve shaft in a variable intake system. Preferred retainer devices can stably support a valve shaft of a variable intake system and may suitably include a shaft support part that can engage a valve shaft of the variable intake system; a fork part that can engage a valve shaft locking bolt; and a stop part spaced from the fork part by a distance sufficient to position the locking bolt between the fork part and the stop part. In preferred systems, even if a valve shaft locking bolt fastening the valve shaft is undesirably loosened during engine operation, the locking bolt is prevented from being completely removed from the retainer, thereby avoiding potential engine damage.

The fresh gas system has the collecting line which is unthrottled and a control unit for actuation of the additional valves is designed so that it subdivides a fresh gas charge of the combustion chamber which depends on the load state into two charging phases (A, B) within an intake time window (T). This is limited by the opening and closing of the intake valve such that it actuates the additional valve to close within the intake time window (T) at a closing point in (TS). This depends on the load state and then actuates it to open at a later opening point in time (TO) that depends on the load state of the piston engine.

The bypass control valve is mounted on the first throttle body. Downstream ends of the bypasses opened in the first and second throttle bodies are formed as throttle holes.
