Governor Override Patents (Class 123/365)
  • Patent number: 4353340
Abstract: A fuel injection pump is disclosed in which the minimum injection quantity or idling rpm is determined by an arbitrarily adjustable stop. This stop is adjusted via a heatable bimetallic spiral, which acts counter to a spiral spring for the purpose of force compensation.

  • Patent number: 4353336
Abstract: A fuel pumping apparatus includes a slide member which can be engaged with an arm of a throttle which controls the flow of fuel to an injection pump of the apparatus. The slide is moveable by an operator to cut off the supply of fuel to the associated engine. A tumbler lock mechanism is mounted in a housing of the apparatus and is connected to an arm which can engage a production on the slide member to move and/or retain the slide member to the position in which supply of fuel to the engine is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4340020
Abstract: A governor mechanism in or for a fuel injection pump includes a centrifugal weight mechanism which effects movement of a member against the action of a preloaded resilient means. The member is coupled to one end of a lever the other end being coupled to a fuel quantity control member of the pump. The lever is mounted on an adjustable pivot. Means is provided to reduce the preload of the resilient means and to position the pivot to ensure a supply of fuel by the pump when it is required that the engine should operate at a reduced speed with a varying load.

  • Patent number: 4331114
Abstract: Apparatus (10) for stopping an engine from a remote location relative to an operator's work station. An engagement apparatus (20) which is displaceable between first and second positions is engaged with an engine stoppage member (19) which, when rotatably displaced by the engagement apparatus (20) between two positions corresponding to the first and second positions of the engagement apparatus (20), can permit engine operation or induce engine shutdown. An actuating link (24) interconnected with engagement apparatus (20) is displaceable, when subjected to a momentarily applied external force, between engine operating and engine shutdown positions. A spring (30) biases engagement apparatus (20) towards the first and second positions when the actuating link (24) occupies the engine operation and shutdown positions, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4328777
Abstract: A governor sleeve is axially displaceable on a stationary governor shaft and has an inner space which is adjoined by the governor shaft and communicated with the inner chamber of a pump housing charged with fuel. The inner space varies in volume drawing thereinto and discharging therefrom fuel in response to axial displacement of the governor sleeve. There is provided valve and channel means which establishes restricted communication between the inner space and the inner chamber upon displacement of the governor sleeve in the direction to produce contraction of the inner space and substantially unrestricted communication between same upon displacement of the governor sleeve in the opposite direction to produce expansion of the inner chamber in order to prevent an acceleration jerk and smoky exhaust.

  • Patent number: 4325266
Abstract: Accelerator/decelerator pedal and systems having a foot-operated pedal assembly to accelerate or decelerate vehicle engine speed and/or output on a temporary basis to override a hand lever set throttle position. The pedal and systems herein disclosed possess a double-acting spring linkage to absorb override movement of the foot pedal during such temporary acceleration or deceleration and to re-establish the original set hand throttle speed upon cessation of the override mode. An anti-feedback device prevents the throttle set position from being altered during acceleration or deceleration of engine speed and/or output.

Abstract: PCT No. PCT/US79/00128 Sec. 371 Date Mar. 2, 1979 Sec. 102(e) Date Mar. 2, 1979 PCT Filed Mar. 2, 1979 PCT Pub. No. WO80/01821 PCT Pub. Date Sept. 4, 1980A system for shutting-down an engine upon overspeeding thereof comprises an engine-driven shaft (19) having a flyweight mechanism (27) connected thereto and engageable with a reciprocally mounted trip shaft (32). The trip shaft (32) is, in turn, engageable with a pivotal latch (33) which is adapted to normally hold a spring-loaded control piston (44) in an inactive first position for permitting normal engine operation. A cable (12) connects the control piston (44) to a flapper valve (11), pivotally mounted in the intake manifold (13) of an engine. The manifold (13) is adapted to be closed upon tripping of the latch (33) to disengage the control piston (44) to permit its movement to an activated second position when the engine speed exceeds a predetermined maximum speed.

  • Patent number: 4254753
Abstract: A speed governor is proposed for fuel injected internal combustion engines capable of correcting the amount and/or mass of the injected fuel set by the governor, in order to maintain engine power at a fluctuating fuel temperature. The governor contains a supporting lever which retains the supporting pin of a control lever movable by the control member. The control lever is coupled with the fuel feed rate adjusting member of the injection pump, and the supporting lever is pivotable in the direction of an increase in the fuel feed rate, by means of a servo actuator of a correction device operating in dependence on the fuel temperature, when the fuel temperature rises. This correction step effective on the supporting lever also makes it possible to shut off the engine, independently of the fuel feed rate correction, by means of a shutoff lever effective on the supporting lever.

  • Patent number: 4252089
Abstract: A fuel quantity regulator for self-igniting internal combustion engines having a fuel quantity regulator rod, an actuator for the regulator rod and an rpm governor. Between the actuator and the regulator rod there is interposed a rocker arm and an intermediate lever. The rocker arm is connected with the actuator, and the intermediate lever is connected to the regulator rod. During correct operation, the rocker arm engages a recess in the intermediate lever and as a result the actuator movement is transmitted to the regulator rod. When an error signal is generated, however, the rocker arm disengages the recess in the intermediate lever, and as a result the regulator rod is disconnected from the actuator so that only the rpm governor is operational relative to the regulator rod.

  • Patent number: 4235212
Abstract: A diesel engine mechanical governor is disclosed having various novel features including a fuel modulating and maximum and minimum speed controlling cam plate and follower mechanism which connects the governor speed responsive actuating mechanism with the fuel rack actuating means to modify the effect of the manual fuel control means in a predetermined manner. The disclosure also includes novel rocking flyweight mechanism arranged to provide an output force as a function of rotational input shaft speed in which the exponential increase in centrifugal force upon outward rocking of the flyweights is partially offset to provide a more gradual increase in force with a corresponding increase of speed.

  • Patent number: 4212279
Abstract: A governor for use in a diesel engine which comprises an integral combination of a centrifugal governing mechanism mainly constituted of a flyweight unit connected to the driving shaft of the diesel engine and an electronic governing mechanism mainly constituted of an electromagnetic actuator including an electromagnetic coil and a plunger connected to a fuel control rack. In said electronic governing mechanism, the plunger is connected to the fuel control rack via a coupling means with a built-in Angleichung spring for adjusting the rate of fuel supply to a proper value in response to a change in the engine speed, while at high engine speeds said centrifugal governing mechanism is adapted for connection to said fuel control rack via a lever-rod coupling means to transmit the opening motion of the flyweight unit via said lever-rod coupling means to the fuel control rack thereby to move the fuel control rack in the fuel supply-decreasing direction.
