  • Patent number: 6827073
Abstract: A block splitting tool having a splitting blade that is formed by edges of a plurality of smaller splitter segments. The splitter segments are arranged in a side-by-side relation such that the edges form a substantially continuous blade that is generally corrugated or jagged. The splitter segments may be operatively connected to a suitable support that, in turn, is attached to a block splitting machine. When the splitting blade of the tool engages and splits a block, the edges of the splitter segments form a plurality of fracture zones that are angled with respect to each other, which results in roughened facings on the newly cleaved smaller blocks. In a preferred embodiment, the splitter segments are removably attached to a support plate, so that they may be repositioned, replaced, and/or repaired.

  • Patent number: 6701805
Abstract: A stone hammer having a weighted head has detachably rotatable and reversible faceplates defining striking edges on opposite ends of the head. The edges of the faceplates define cutting edges for trimming stone and the like. As a striking edge becomes worn, another striking edge can be selected by repositioning the faceplate. A striking edge may be selected by rotating a faceplate, individually reversing a faceplate, replacing a faceplate, striking with an opposing end or different edge of the hammer, or any combination thereof. In one embodiment, the faceplates are attached by a symmetrical pattern of bolts disposed in the faceplates. A worn striking edge is replaced by unbolting the faceplate and either flipping the faceplate over, or replacing the worn faceplate with a new faceplate having fresh, sharp edges.

  • Patent number: 6681756
Abstract: An attachment for a percussive tool comprises a plurality of parallel rows of teeth (10) formed along the edges of planar chisel blades (9) arranged to form a shape having rotational symmetry. The attachment is connected to a percussive tool and placed in contact with a wall (12). The tool causes percussive action of the attachment such that the chisel blades (9) form a plurality of parallel grooves (13) and ridges in the wall. The tool and attachment are then rotated through an angle and placed in contact with the wall (12) in a position overlaying the plurality of parallel grooves (13). This breaks up the ridges forming a hole (15) of a substantially uniform depth. The attachment is used to produce square holes suitable for installing wall boxes for light switches or power points.

  • Patent number: 6199545
Abstract: Arrangements are taught for decoratively engraving a surface, such as hardened concrete or stone, particularly by engraving stencil-defined swaths into the surface with a tool of the type commonly called a needle scaler. The arrangements include methods of covering portions of the surface with a stencil made of material capable of withstanding a chisel blow, and then engraving exposed swaths by repeated chisel blows from one or more chisels having a restricted stroke. In some cases non-contiguous portions of a stencil are interconnected by bridge-line connectors selected to allow free access to the entire swath by a needle scaler or other chisel driving apparatus. In other cases a space-frame is placed atop a stencil and used to support discrete non-contiguous island portions of the stencil.

  • Patent number: 5621962
Abstract: A chisel and a method of manufacturing a durable chisel. An axial hole is formed in a chisel so that the hole is open at the chisel tip. Non-metallic powder is then supplied into the axial hole. A core member made of cemented carbide or other material harder than the chisel body is then press-fitted into the axial hole. By inserting the core member into the hole, the non-metallic powder flows so as to fill up any space between the rear end face of the core member and the closed end of the axial hole.

  • Patent number: 5590639
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method of masonary cutting and to the structure of a novel tool. The tool has twin outwardly splayed and flared chisel like blades which join the handle at a recess groove for waste ejection. The blades are beveled only on their upper edges and are driven forward by hammering on the remove handle end. The method comprises attacking a flat masonary surface at an angle greater than 5 degrees (preferably at 13 degrees) with twin divergent cutting edges beveled only on the upper surfaces and having a flat lower surface. Material is imploded between the blades and ejected at the recess groove without dust formation.
