  • Publication number: 20030221686
Abstract: A radiant heating system having a housing for holding a plurality of gas burners with a ceramic burner element that emits infrared rays after becoming hot. A controller is used for selectively controlling at least one valve to restrict the gas flow to the individual burners. A method is shown for radiating heat from a gas burner in response to a thermostat by controlling the gas flow to individual burners with electronic valves located in a gas supply line and selectively shutting off the gas flow to each burner.

  • Patent number: 6170481
Abstract: A prefabricated open-ended fireplace box for use in fireplace assemblies is molded from a slurry of refractory ceramic fibers and a non-organic binder. The prefabricated fireplace box is preferably formed in or over a mold which provides an accurate shape to the green or semi-rigid open end box which must be dried or partially fired while on the mold to avoid warping or distortion while being removed from the mold. A rigid surround trim in the form of a C-shape is placed in or on the mold at the open ends of the fireplace box. At least one attachment flange of the surround trim is integrally molded into walls of the fireplace box so that at least the open end of the semi-rigid fireplace box is made rigid when removed from the mold.

  • Patent number: 5996575
Abstract: A low cost prefabricated fireplace is provided with an open-ended fireplace box which requires no outer sheet metal shroud or housing as employed in the prior art sheet metal fireplaces. The novel fireplace box has at least five walls which consist substantially of insulating reinforced ceramic fiber (RCF) material and a binder. A modular burner system is removably mounted on the bottom wall of the fireplace box and a floor panel is mounted on the modular burner system forming an air chamber below the floor panel in the fireplace box. A decorative surround trim is attached to the open end of the fireplace box which serves to support fixed or operable glass doors. A log set which may include a log burner is mounted above the floor panel which supports a decorative log set. Apertures are made in the sides or top of the fireplace box to accommodate an air supply and/or an exhaust stack.

  • Patent number: 5263852
Abstract: A fireplace gas burner unit is provided which allows for excellent aeration and distribution of the combustion gas without excessive gas flow noise. The burner includes a typical open-topped container box with triangular sides. A perforated burner pipe is disposed horizontally within the container box, with the perforations angled slightly towards the front of the box. A deflector plate is attached across the top of the burner pipe and is slanted forward and downwardly to form a narrow slit near the front of the container box. The narrow slit has a long central section and opposing periphery sections. The central section has a greater opening height than the periphery sections.

  • Patent number: 4502395
Abstract: An apparatus for placement in the effluent path of the combustible gases created by fuel burning in a combustion chamber and delivering such combustible gases to a catalyst is disclosed. A finned holder for placement downstream of the burning fuel is provided. The fins on the holder serve to create turbulence in the combustible gases emanating from the burning fuel. The holder also serves to support a secondary air introduction ring. The ring uniformly introduces preheated secondary air to the combustible gases through a plurality of ports in the ring thus forming a substantially homogeneous mixture of gases. The homogeneous mixture of gases is delivered to a catalyst located above and downstream of both the holder and ring.

  • Patent number: 4375214
Abstract: A radiant for use with a gas heater embodies a pair of upwardly converging front and rear walls formed of aluminum silicate. Connector members also formed of a fibrous aluminum silicate refractory board extend between the walls to retain their lower end portions in spaced relation to each other. Perforations are provided in the front wall for emitting radiant heat and an upper vent opening is provided in the rear wall. A convexly curved lower end portion is provided on the rear wall for imparting rotary motion to the burning gases as they move upwardly between the walls.

  • Patent number: 3963414
Abstract: Combustion gas flowing alongside a surface of an open burner, such as over the upright catalytic bed of a space heater or a generally horizontal surface such as the top plate of a space heater, is segregated by an aperture in the path of flow of the combustion gas, so that the gas flows through such aperture instead of being dissipated into a room space and mixed with the ambient air of the space. The effluent combustion gas thus sequestered is withdrawn by suction through a discharge duct. The opening through such aperture or discharge duct can be regulated by a shutter or damper, which can be adjusted by a thermostat responsive to the temperature of gas flowing through the segregating aperture or discharge duct, to enlarge the duct opening as the temperature rises and to restrict the opening as the temperature decreases.
