Patent number: 6470876Abstract: A portable heater assembly includes a fan module, an electrical ignition assembly, a heating apparatus, and an encasement. The encasement supports and houses the fan module, the electrical ignition assembly, and the heating apparatus. The fan module includes a fan, an electric switch, and electrical wiring, the electrical wiring interconnecting the fan, electric switch and a power source. The electric switch activates the fan by forming a closed electrical circuit within the electrical wiring between the power source and the fan. The electrical ignition assembly includes an electrical ignition device, a spark-emitting electrode tip protruding from the electrical ignition device, and an ignition activator connected to the electrical ignition device by an activator connector.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: The Coleman Company, Inc.Inventors: Franklin T. Patent number: 6286500Abstract: A space heater capable of providing both radiant and blown warm air heating to a space beneath the heater. The heater comprises a housing, the underside of which is recessed to define a channel in which a combustion tube is mounted. The heater has a burner communicating with a first end of the tube, and a first fan means communicating with the tube for moving combustion gases along the tube from the first end to the second end. The housing includes an aperture in an upper surface thereof. The aperture is linked to a second fan means for directing air into the channel within the housing. A heat exchanger plate is mounted between the tube and the aperture. The heat exchanger plate is shaped to surround the upper surface of the combustion tube so as to absorb radiation therefrom and to prevent air from the aperture from impinging directly onto the tube. Air is heated by the heat exchanger plate before passing out downwardly through a lower end of the channel within the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Inventor: David Mervin Jones

Patent number: 5226590Abstract: An adaptor is designed to mount a duty cycling control switch for a furnace or air conditioning system which has flexible duct work. The adaptor includes two opposite cylindrical sections with a central section which includes an arcuate portion and a planar rectangular portion. The planar rectangular portion is tangential to the surfaces of the first and second cylindrical sections. The duty cycling control switch is mounted to this planar portion. Thus, air passing through the duct work will pass through this adaptor altering the temperature of the rectangular plate, thus, altering the temperature of the duty cycling switch causing it to activate.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1992Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Assignee: Raymond K. Patent number: 4777929Abstract: A temperature sensitive duty cycling control switch is mounted to a forced air ductless gas or oil heater by a special mounting bracket. The bracket attaches to the front of the heater in the path of the heated airflow. The mounting device is basically a tapered conduit or duct which is held at a distance from the heater so that it does not unduly obstruct the airflow and is tapered to concentrate air generated by the heater onto a plate mounted in front of the duct. The duty cycling control switch is then mounted to this plate and responds to the temperature of the plate. This enables the cycling of the heater burner while the fan continues to operate.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1987Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: Temper-Sensor, Inc.Inventor: Dean Welch

Patent number: 4512329Abstract: An elongate manifold is supported in the fireplace chamber with the manifold spaced from the back of and above the fireplace floor. Gas logs are supported by a grate adjacent the manifold for heating same. A forced air blower is located behind the manifold between the manifold and the back wall of the fireplace. A vertical heat shield plate is interposed between the manifold and blower. A duct system connects the blower with the manifold and with the room served by the fireplace so as to draw air from the room, force it through the manifold and return it to the room. Thermostatic switch means limits the operation of the blower to times when the heat generated by the fireplace is substantial enough to be useful in forced air heating.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1984Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Inventor: Steven W.
