The composition further includes a salt and at least one sweetener. The composition has a moisture content of at least about 40% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a smoking article comprising two layers of wrapper material, the outer wrapper having an air permeability of at least 200 C.U. and having a greater permeability than the inner wrapper. Encapsulated flavour is held between the inner and outer wrappers. The encapsulation technique is dependent upon the flavour to be encapsulated and the sidestream to mainstream flavour delivery ratio required. Sidestream smoke may be altered without altering the mainstream smoke, thereby altering room odors.

The novel cyclic acetals of the present invention may be used as flavorants in tobacco compositions or tobacco substitutes, as sustained flavorants and odorants to mask or enhance the flavors and odors of burning tobacco products, as flavor additives to microwaveable foods, and in the preparation of chewing gums.

Abstract: This invention provides smoking compositions which contain a novel flavorant-release additive.Under cigarette smoking conditions, a combustible filler and/or paper wrapper additive such as a molecular inclusion complex of a .beta.-cyclodextrin derivative and vanillin releases vanillin as a volatile flavorant component of the cigarette smoke. The released vanillin flavorant improves the taste of the mainstream smoke and imparts a pleasant aroma to the sidestream smoke.

Abstract: In a method for the production of an agent for modifying a smoke-flavor, ambroxide is contacted with a microbial culture to effect a transformation of at least a proportion of the ambroxide to a product comprising at least one oxygenated derivative of ambroxide. The said product may comprise at least one of the compounds A, B and C, each as defined in the specification. The respective Compound, (particularly Compound A), may be extracted from said product for incorporation with a smoking material. Thus a smoke-flavor modifying agent produced by the aforesaid method for incorporation with, or included in, a smoking material or smoking article may comprise at least one compound of the aforesaid group.The loading level of the said agent may be within a range of 0.1 to 100 parts per million or, suitably, of 0.5 to 10 parts per million, of the said smoking material.

Abstract: This invention provides smoking compositions which contain a tetracarbonate ester compound as a flavorant additive.In one of its embodiments, this invention provides tobacco compositions which contain a tetracarbonate ester flavorant additive such as 2,5-bis(menthoxycarbonyloxymethylene)-3,6-bis(menthoxycarbonyloxy)-1,4-dio xane: ##STR1## Under cigarette smoking conditions the above illustrated tetracarbonate ester pyrolyzes into menthol and other products which enhance the flavor of the mainstream smoke and the aroma of sidestream smoke.

Abstract: This invention provides smoking compositions which contain a dioxane diester compound as a flavorant additive.In one of its embodiments, this invention provides tobacco compositions which contain a dioxane diester flavorant additive such as 2,5-bis(3-methylvaleryloxy)-1,4-dioxane: ##STR1## Under cigarette smoking conditions the above illustrated dioxane diester pyrolyzes into 3-methylvaleric acid and other products which enhance the flavor of the mainstream smoke and the aroma of sidestream smoke.
