  • Patent number: 5655551
Abstract: A method of use of an applicator for hair lotions. The applicator has a flat, solid blade that is shaped like a comb. This blade does not have teeth like a comb normally has. One embodiment of the applicator does have a series of small curved teeth, similar in appearance to saw teeth, formed on the front edge of the blade. These teeth enable the applicator to lie flat on coarse hair without difficulty compared to an applicator having a smooth leading edge. The method calls for aligning the front edge of the blade against the hair such that the flat blade is perpendicular to the hair; applying lotion to the hair; catching any spilled lotion on the flat blade of the applicator; rotating the flat blade 90 degrees such that the blade is parallel to the hair; and wiping the lotion accumulated on the flat blade on the hair.

  • Patent number: 5231999
Abstract: A comb for separating strands of hair to implement and facilitate highlighting, streaking or frosting is described. The comb comprises first and second rows of teeth which project angularly from a handle portion. The teeth in the first row are spaced to initially part and separate strands of hair during combing. The teeth in the second row are adjacent to the first row or teeth but in staggered relation thereto. The teeth in the second row are also shorter in length than the first row of teeth and tapered to provide a secondary partition and separation of strands confined between adjacent teeth of the first row. Each tooth in the second row is also formed with a hook that projects toward an adjacent tooth for engaging and separating alternate strands of hair from a grouping.

  • Patent number: 5018542
Abstract: A comb for selectively separating strands of hair for individual treatment includes an elongated base and a plurality of teeth positioned at spaced-apart locations along the length of the base. Each tooth includes a shaft which extends outwardly from the base to a free end. The teeth include a hair-engaging portion at the free end of a shaft which is substantially linearly straight and smooth from the base to the hair-engaging portion. The hair-engaging portion is positioned to engage only selected strands of hair while allowing non-selected strands to fall freely from between the teeth as the comb is lifted, moving the teeth in a direction toward the base through the lock of hair. Each hair-engaging portion includes a tine member which extends outwardly from the shaft to define a substantially open hook throat. Each tine member is on a common side of each tooth so that the selected strands may be released from each hook throat by a single longitudinal movement of the base.

  • Patent number: 4993438
Abstract: The present hair weaving comb for rapidly and evenly separating hair for highlighting and the like includes a set of legs extending from an elongate support member. Distal end portions of the legs include hair separating teeth for separating a section of hair into sub-sections. When the legs of the comb are initially inserted into a section of hair, the teeth create sub-sections of hair. When the legs are further inserted in the section of hair, the teeth group and displace alternate hair sub-sections away from other alternate hair sub-sections. The other alternate hair sub-sections are bypassed by the teeth and slide into hair-receiving slots formed between the spaced-apart legs of the hair weaving comb. When the legs are still further inserted through the hair section, the displaced hair sub-sections are pushed out of a hairstylists's hand and readily fall out of the teeth of the distal end of the comb and down to the head of the customer.

  • Patent number: 4984590
Abstract: A comb for grooming full bodied hair having a handle portion, and an elongated tooth support portion extending longitudinally from the handle portion. A first set of relatively long and widely spaced teeth extend transversely from the tooth support portion such that upon passage through hair such teeth channel the hair without substantial resistance and without adversely affecting the body of the hair. A second set of substantially shorter length of teeth are provided, which each are disposed between a pair of the teeth of the first set such that when the teeth of the second set are passed through the hair a relatively small drag is created on the hair to permit precisely controlled contouring and styling thereof.

Cutting on the concave or the convex face of the curve. Supplying a plurality of curves arced on different radiuses, the curves with lesser radiuses removing more weight of hair than curves with larger radiuses. • Patent number: 4358660
Abstract: A collapsible electric curling iron includes an elongated hollow handle open at one end and an elongated, generally cylindrical heat conductive housing mounted on the handle for movement between an operative use position where the housing extends out of the handle through the open end and an inoperative storage position where the housing is confined within the handle. A cap on the inner end of the housing cooperates with a collar and guides on the handle to prevent side-to-side or "rocking" movement of the housing in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the handle during movement between the operative and inoperative positions. • Patent number: 4163143
Abstract: An improved hair dressing device of the curling iron type having a heatable barrel is provided, along a longitudinal segment thereof, with a plurality of radially projecting hair combing teeth having substantially pointed ends. Stop means are associated with the member for maintaining the same in spaced relation to the barrel and to the ends of the teeth in the operative position so as to essentially limit and minimize clamping pressure on hair confined between the member and the barrel to allow the hair to slide therebetween as the barrel is rotated during use, with a minimum possibility of hair being caught between the member and the ends of the teeth.
