  • Patent number: 6994097
Abstract: A method for treating and/or styling selective sections of hair on a person's head is disclosed. The method includes the use of a substantially transparent polymer film having a thickness of approximately 0.025 mm. The hair is weaved in order to isolate the sections of hair to be treated. The film is placed against the hair to be treated and a chemical is applied to the hair. Typically, rolling or folding the film onto itself accomplishes sealing or bonding of the film. Optionally, a second film is placed over the first film with the treated hair contained between the two films. Static conductivity facilitates sealing of the film or films. The film or films as a result of the sealing or bonding contain the section of hair and chemical. Chemical development, accelerated by the static conductivity, is observed through the substantially transparent film. Hair, isolated during the treatment process, can be cut with the film and chemical in place, by cutting right through the thin film and hair at the same time.

  • Publication number: 20040182409
Abstract: A nail trimmer apparatus (and related methods). The apparatus is a small handheld battery powered device that safely trims nails by leveraging unique physical properties of the skin and nail tissue. A trimming action is driven by a compact motor of appropriate speed and torque and a mechanism that converts the rotation of the motor shaft to an oscillating action at the head. A cushioned abrasive surface attached to the head oscillates with a frequency and stroke that optimizes the trimming of the nail while not adversely affecting surrounding skin. By selecting a desirable form factor and trimming properties, the device is particularly well suited to trimming infant's nails. Infant's nails are often difficult to trim due to the small size of the finger or toe and nail, the lack of cooperation by the infant and the precision required by existing nail trimming tools. The simple one-handed trimmer does not generally require significant dexterity and can be used whether the infant is asleep or awake.

Abstract: A method of decorating fingernails is disclosed. An applicator having a foam brush on one end and a bristle brush on the other end is obtained. The bristle brush is used to apply a uniform coating of nail polish of one color. Then, the foam brush is partially saturated in nail polish of a color different from the color of the uniform coating. The foam brush is repeatedly pressed against the nail. Due to the non-uniform cell structure of the foam brush, pools of nail polish of different sizes and thicknesses are deposited onto the nail. Some of the pools are thin to allow the color of the uniform coating to be visible therethrough. The uniform coating is left exposed in several locations. Thus, a mottled effect is produced on the fingernail.
