  • Patent number: 6691713
Abstract: An apparatus for mechanical removal of pests and their eggs from the hair and fur, and a method for use of the apparatus. The apparatus is in the general shape of a comb having closely separated parallel teeth, which can be passed through the hair to glean lice and nits from the hair. The apparatus may comprise two or more individual combs which can be locked together for use, and separated for cleaning. The apparatus may also comprise a tooth-cleaning mechanism, adapted to be used after each pass of the comb. This mechanism may be, for example, a cleaning member which slides along the teeth to remove pests and eggs. When the apparatus is being passed through the hair or fur, the cleaning mechanism may be disposed at the base of the apparatus to prevent pests from crawling into interior spaces of the apparatus and reinfesting the individual upon subsequent passes of the apparatus through the hair or fur.

  • Patent number: 6679271
Abstract: A nail care apparatus comprises a motor housing having two ends: a handle end and a rotating housing end. A replaceable tip is inserted into the rotating housing so that it rotates along with the housing end. A disposable manicuring cylinder that is comprised of a soft polyurethane rubber in the shape of a hollow cylinder is then secured onto the replaceable tip, allowing it to rotate along with the replaceable tip. A power supply is connected to the housing at the handle end and provides power to an electric motor inside the motor housing such that the operation of the motor causes rotational movement of the rotating housing. The manicuring cylinders would be manufactured by slicing long tubes polyurethane rubber into desired lengths. The outer surface of the manicuring cylinder would be granular due to either a surface coating of sand powder mixed with adhesive or a sandpaper laminate, thus allowing uniform and even buffing and polishing without the risk of unnecessary keratin erosion.

  • Patent number: 6481444
Abstract: Light cured nail coatings that are applied to natural nails and/or artificial nail-tips for cosmetic purposes. An optional bond-enhancing compound can be used to strengthen the bond between the light curable coatings and the natural nail. Also, finishing compounds may be used to clean the surface of the uv curable coatings resulting in a high-gloss shine. The methods of applying uv-radiation curable nail coatings, bond-enhancing compounds, and finishing compounds to artificial nail-tips and natural nail are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 6470896
Abstract: A hair band that is comfortable to wear all day without engaging individual strands of the wearer's hair. The band includes a flexible rod having a substantially arcuate shape having an apex and two ends. The flexible rod is of a length to terminate above the wearer's ears when the flexible rod's apex confronts the apex of the wearer's head. The flexible rod is encased in a padded portion that confronts the wearer's head and cushions the rod from the wearer's head and terminates near the wearer's ears. Two straps, which are preferably padded, extend from and are adhered to the padded portion encasing the flexible rod such that the straps and padded portion form a large arcuate member.

  • Patent number: 6450176
Abstract: A hair-winding tool includes a rectangular hair-winding part having a flat surface portion. A pair of rotation-supporting parts are provided at both ends of the hair-winding part in its longitudinal direction. The rotation-supporting parts rotatably support the hair-winding part manually or automatically. The rotation-supporting part includes a cylindrical member. A plurality of engaging claws is disposed on an axial end of the cylindrical member such that the engaging claws are circumferentially spaced at desired intervals. An elastic holding member such as a rubber band can be engaged to a groove formed between the engaging claws. A novel zigzag hair wave is formed by winding hair on the hair-winding part of the hair-winding tool and performing cold permanent wave for the hair wound thereon.

Abstract: This invention includes an applicator for hair having a brush first end and a hair arranging element second end. The intermediate portion between these two ends is used to treat hair with both of the ends without the operator giving up up possession of the instrument. The applicator is used to treat arranged groups of hair sections, section by section, each section being formed by the hair arranging element and that same section being treated by the brush by applying in applying a tinting substance to the formed section. Once the hair section has been treated, it is isolated with waterproof material, and a subsequent section is formed and treated. This continues until all of the hair has been so treated and is ready for tinting.

  • Patent number: 6446634
Abstract: Disclosed is an automated wig manufacturing system. A two-dimensional thin wig base (11) of fabric material woven by resin fiber, for example, is supplied to above a conveyor table (21), whereas an artificial hair (30) is supplied to the underside of the base. The base is subjected to tensioning rollers (23) so that it is placed on the table in a stretched condition. A reciprocating needle (41) penetrates the stretched base to engage the artificial hair, which is pulled above to thereby transplanted on the base. The hair transplanting operation in such a manner is repeated at different points, as the table is moved in predetermined direction(s) with a predetermined pitch. After the hair transplanting operation is completed, the base is released from being stretched, thereby allowing shrinkage of the base due to its material shrinkability. The base with the artificial hairs transplanted is then formed into a three-dimensional configuration to provide fittability to a human head.
