  • Patent number: 11471314
Abstract: A trunk supporting exoskeleton comprises: a supporting trunk; thigh links configured to move in unison with a wearer's thighs; and first and second torque generators located on both left and right halves of the wearer substantially close to the wearer's hip. The torque generators couple the supporting trunk to the thigh links, and generate torque between the thigh links and the supporting trunk. When the wearer bends forward such that a predetermined portion of the supporting trunk passes beyond a predetermined angle from vertical, a torque generator(s) imposes a resisting torque between the supporting trunk and the thigh link(s), causing the supporting trunk to impose a force against the wearer's trunk, and the thigh link(s) to impose a force onto the wearer's thigh. When the predetermined portion does not pass beyond the predetermined angle, the torque generators impose no resisting torques between said supporting trunk and respective thigh links.

Abstract: A mobility aid includes two side frames, each configured for contact with a hand or forearm of associated user; an interconnecting frame member; two or more wheels; one or two adjustable torso bars attached to side frames, and each variably including a posterior member for maintaining consistent contact of torso with the anterior member. Flexed posturing and abnormal lower body biomechanics are common with use of wheeled walking aids managed by the upper body. Users typically excessively push down and forward to advance device. The novel body engaging member(s) enable the presented device to be advanced by torso contact as the user walks. Upper body weight bearing is thereby minimized. Propulsion is enhanced as user advances the pelvis against the torso bar(s). Posture is improved and safety is increased. A walker is provided for users requiring, or training to achieve, light upper body support.

Abstract: A posture-correcting walker for assisting a user in performing safe ambulation, comprising a frame having a pair of front legs and a pair of rear legs joined together by a pair of horizontal supports, a pair of handgrips positioned on the horizontal supports, and a pair of forearm guiding supports which project upwardly at a rearward angle which are adapted to maintain the user's elbows and forearms at a guided posture angle during ambulation to ensure correct walking posture with the user's legs maintained within the frame. The forearm guiding supports each have a retaining cradle which supports the forearms and restricts rearward and sideways motion. The walker further has a descending segment ahead of each handgrip to ensure correct placement of the hands, as well as a pair of stabilizing segments which cause the rear legs to project rearwardly which stabilize the walker.

Abstract: The standing aid is a mobility assistance device. The standing aid is configured for use with a person. The person is further defined with a knee. The knee is further defined with a patella. The standing aid assists a person as the person moves in a manner selected from the group consisting of: 1) moving from a standing position to a kneeling position; and, 2) moving from a kneeling position to a standing position. The standing aid allows a person to transfer some of the load of their body to the supporting surface through a load path created by the standing aid. This transfer allows a person to more easily move in the selected manner. The standing aid comprises a stanchion, a plurality of supporting legs, and a handle. The plurality of supporting legs and the handle attach to the stanchion.

  • Patent number: 10500121
Abstract: A walker for maintaining balance and stability has extendable and retractable struts positioned within tubular legs for leveling the walker when climbing stairs, a curb or an incline. The struts on each side of the walker are connected to one another via cables which coordinate the motion of the struts so that when the front struts retract within their respective tubular legs the rear struts extend proportionally and vice versa. The cables may be arranged using pulleys mounted within the tubular legs or Bowden cables may be used within each of the tubular legs. User actuated clutches engage the cables to arrest the motion of the struts and temporarily fix them in a desired configuration.

Abstract: On a safety walker that has two handles situated for grasping by the user while pushing or step-wise advancing the walker, a sensor is situated on each handle at a position where the user grasps the handles in use, for sensing hand proximity or pressure on each handle. A transmitter is associated with each sensor. A signal generator is responsive to the transmitters, for producing a warning signal to the user, when the user has only one hand on the handle. Thus, at least one signal generator is responsive to the transmitters, for producing a warning signal to the user when the sensor on one handle senses a hand and the sensor on the other handle does not sense a hand on the other handle. The system provides a warning before a dangerous tilt or fall is imminent.
