  • Patent number: 9103421
Abstract: A rotary-to-linear motion actuator having helical bevel gear and methods of use thereof are described. The actuator may be utilized with an apparatus for managing a fluid flow passage between one or more input ports and output ports. A pinion gear engages, and during operation turns, a bevel ring gear arranged on a helical path along an external periphery of a sleeve retaining a seat, which forms a fixed orifice. The teeth of the bevel gear are arranged on the helical path at the same pitch as external threads on the sleeve, which in turn, engage internal threads in an apparatus body. The area of the flow passage is changed by movement of the fixed seat orifice axially with respect to a contoured plug assembly. The threads of the sleeve and the body resist axial load imparted by the pressure drop across at the fixed orifice.

Abstract: An improved sequencing fluid control valve comprising a housing having inlet and outlet ports, a valve seat disposed within the housing, a collapsible valve member disposed within the housing and forming a chamber and a bulb. A sequencing means disposed within the chamber that controls the axial motion of the valve member in response to application of fluid pressure at the inlet such that the motion of valve member alternates between an open free flowing state and a closed restricted flow state. Housing and valve member cooperate in the open position to provide an annular flow path that does not require the fluid flow direction to substantially change while flowing from inlet to outlet. Housing and valve member bulb cooperate in the closed position to form a circumferential seal to restrict the fluid flow. Alternative embodiments including viscous damping means and variations on the housing mount are described.

Abstract: An improved ball type valve rotator is provided that includes a main body segment having a bottom wall with an upper surface, and a body cap that overlies the main body segment. A ball cages assembly is housed between the main body segment and the body cap. The ball cages assembly includes multiple ramps with lower surfaces that are spaced from the bottom wall upper surface of the main body segment. This allows the multiple ramps to deflect toward the bottom wall upper surface of the main body segment. The multiple ramps can deflect independently of each other, so that different distances can be defined between the different ramps and the bottom wall upper surface of the main body segment. In so doing, the ball cage assembly can accommodate non-uniform applications of force into the valve rotator.

  • Patent number: 7351179
Abstract: A low energy stepper motor driven actuator that eliminates the need for a position sensor is provided. The stepper motor rotates a cam in a control piston valve. The cam rotation increases the gap between the cam and nozzle on one side of the cam and decreases the gap between the cam and nozzle on the other side. The gap differences affect the pressures on the control piston ends, which forces the piston in the direction that will re-equalize the cam-nozzle gaps. As a result, piston moves to a position such that the head or rod of the actuator piston receives high pressure flow, thereby moving the actuator. Movement of the actuator rod provides mechanical feedback to the cam, causing the cam to move back to its mechanical null position.

Abstract: The invention seeks to reduce structure-borne sound emissions of the reciprocating piston pump. The reciprocating pump is includes an outlet valve, which has a valve seat and a valve closing body that is received in a hollow space and is loaded by a closing spring. One outlet bore radially originates at the circumferential region of the valve seat and branches off from the hollow space. The opening of the outlet bore toward the hollow space extends at least approximately between the valve seat and the end toward the closing spring of the gap of least cross section, which is formed between the valve closing body and the inside circumference of the hollow space. As a result, a slowed opening motion of the valve closing element is attained, in which opening motion an opening gap opens up that has its largest flow cross section in the region of the outlet bore.

  • Patent number: 5092358
Abstract: A pressure regulator whose initial pressure can be set by manually setting the initial stress of a control spring has a double-seated valve with an inner and outer valve seat and a valve closing element. The valve closing element divides a supply pressure chamber from a control pressure chamber and the latter from a pressure-relief chamber. The inner valve seat is arranged on a control piston which is loaded by the control spring. In order to set a higher initial pressure, the initial stress of the control spring is increased, in order to reduce pressure, the initial stress of the spring is diminished. During this process, the outer or inner valve seat lifts off temporarily from the valve closing element until equilibrium is reestablished by a corresponding pressure chamber and the double-seated valve closes.

  • Patent number: 4449547
Abstract: A gate valve presents on a flat valve seat surface defining a fluid flow path the mating flat surface of a freely rotatable circular disc carried at its center along a longitudinally moving straight line axis. The valve seat defines a fluid flow aperture asymmetrically disposed to the disc center movement line to thereby create a turning moment from pressure and flow of fluid through the valve seat. This serves without ratching mechanisms to rotate the disc periphery randomly thereby presenting different disc edge portions in a wear position from the fluid flow. Accordingly, wear is evenly distributed about the peripheral edge to significantly increase life and reduce sealing problems from chemical or sediment materials coming between the disc and valve seat surfaces. By mounting the disc and valve seat surfaces at an acute angle to the axis of movement, the disc is freely rotatable and subject to the turning moment up until the time they are frictionally wedged together in a sealed valve closure position.

Vapor pressurized in the container (1) by the heating means (2) lifts the body from the seat so that vapor can flow up into the treatment space of the vessel (3). When the apparatus is shut off, the body seals the opening (6) and thereby prevents evaporation of solvent from the container (1).

Abstract: In order to increase life of a disc type valve, which exhibits wear in the presence of fluid flow, a circular freely rotatable closure disc is provided so disposed in its closure path to engage flow apertures asymmetrically thereby inducing a rotary motion which presents a randomly positioned part of the disc periphery in the wear position. Life is thereby substantially increased by distributing wear evenly about the entire periphery of the closure disc.A fast close embodiment is of the rotary disc type operable by a lever to move a flat disc surface over a flat seat containing a flow aperture of smaller dimension than the disc. The disc in accordance with this invention is freely rotatable and the movement path of the disc axis of rotation is asymmetrically disposed relative to the geometric center of the aperture to thereby induce rotation of the disc with random rotational positioning of the disc periphery over the flow aperture, thereby distributing wear about the entire disc periphery.
