  • Patent number: 11162598
Abstract: The invention relates to petroleum engineering, and more particularly to the design of a check valve that can be used in conjunction with downhole sucker-rod pumps or electric centrifugal pumps primarily intended for pumping fluids with a high solid particle content. A ball check valve comprises: a hollow cylindrical housing having an internal annular protrusion; a valve pair mounted inside said housing and being in the form of an annular seat and a ball locking member; and a means for limiting the movement of the closure member, which is in the form of a cage with through holes for fluid flow. Between the seat and the cage there is mounted an annular elastic member, the inner diameter of which is not greater than the diameter of the ball locking member. The annular elastic element performs a dual function: when closing the valve provides additional pressing of the ball locking element to the seat due to the arising elastic forces; and provides additional sealing.

Abstract: A combined vacuum relief and pressure containing valve assembly for relieving vacuum developing within an associated vessel and for containing elevated pressures developing within the vessel. The valve assembly has a housing having two communicating passageways demarcated by a valve seat. The first passageway communicates to the open atmosphere and also with the valve from below the valve seat. The valve is a ball constrained to move only vertically above its seat. The second passageway communicates with the valve from above the valve seat. The second passageway extends below the valve so that when the valve assembly is connected to the associated vessel, pressures prevailing within the vessel act on the valve from above. Therefore, vacuum prevailing within the vessel, acting in concert with relatively higher ambient temperatures, will draw the valve into the open position. At zero pressure differential, gravity urges the valve into the closed position and maintains a seal.

  • Patent number: 6202678
Abstract: The present invention is a valve that shuts off only upon excess flow of liquid. A ball is seated within a ball holder. The ball holder has a circumferential side wall. An inlet orifice and one or more circumferential apertures are defined in the circumferential side wall. An outlet orifice is defined in a surface disposed above the ball holder. The ball holder may be disposed within a main body which directs all material flowing in the valve to enter the ball holder. Excess flow of liquid effects a shut-off position of the valve when the excess flow of liquid encounters resistance caused by the circumferential apertures. The resistance causes the liquid to flow through the inlet orifice at a flow high enough to push the ball upwards to a height at which the flow of liquid through the circumferential apertures carries the ball further upward to effectively seal the outlet aperture, at which point the sealed position is maintained by hydrostatic pressure.
