  • Patent number: 8851101
Abstract: A siphon initiator that has a drive cylinder and an inner stopper. The stopper is held in a limited range of motion by a wire guard at one end and the formed end of the drive cylinder at the other end. The inner stopper seals the lower end of the drive cylinder during the siphoning. Both ends of the drive cylinder have hose fittings. In practice, after attaching the hoses, the user inserts one hose into the container holding the liquid. The other hose is inserted into the vessel to receive the liquid. The user then moves the drive cylinder back and forth a few times to initiate the flow of fluid. The motion alternatively seals the hose and opens it in rapid succession, causing the necessary vacuum within the draw hose to pull liquid from the container to begin the siphoning process.

  • Patent number: 8579610
Abstract: A downhole pump has a barrel and a plunger. The barrel has a first one-way valve and the plunger has a second one-way valve. The plunger is of the box end type. The pump prevents or minimizes gas lock by achieving high compression in the compression chamber between the two valves. The second valve is located close to the bottom end of the plunger. In the second valve, the valve seat is in contact with the seat plug, which seat plug has a seal. Alternatively, the valve seat is incorporated into the seat plug, which seat plug also has a seal. The plunger lacks reliefs at the bottom end and thereby achieves tight tolerances with the barrel, further contributing to high compression.

Abstract: Several discharge check valve arrangements for scroll compressors move the check valve closer to the discharge port and the compression chambers. This reduces the amount of discharge pressure backflow, and thus reduces the amount of reverse rotation at shutdown. In one type of check valve arrangement, a plug is mounted within a check valve chamber to provide a stop for the check valve. The plug allows the check valve to seat against its valve seat while the compressor is operating to allow gas to flow around the check valve into a discharge plenum. At shutdown, the check valve arrangement is constructed to cause the check valve to rapidly close the discharge port. In other arrangements, the discharge check valve assembly may be mounted in a separator plate as a separate valve plug. This embodiment is similar to an earlier embodiment in the basic operation of the check valve.
