  • Patent number: 9365183
Abstract: A vehicle air-bag inflator includes a container initially containing a pressurized gas and having a vent opening in a wall thereof. A rupturable element, attached to a container wall, covers the vent opening, sealing the interior of the container. The rupturable element is attached to a first support, which supports a region of the rupturable element and prevents the rupturable element from rupturing. A first support, attached to a container wall, is movable between a first and a second configuration, with respect to the container wall. In an initial configuration, a second support supports the first support and prevents the first support from moving from a first configuration to a second configuration. In a final configuration, a second support allows the first support to move from the first configuration to the second configuration. An activation mechanism moves the second support from an initial configuration to a final configuration when triggered.

  • Patent number: 8371611
Abstract: A rupture feature releases pressurized gas into a diffuser through an egress opening in an inflator wall responsive to a pressure impulse in the inflator. A sturdy rupture fragment is positioned opposite the egress opening. A thin rupture membrane continuously circumscribes and sealingly interconnects the rupture fragment to the inflator about the egress opening. Rupture membrane thickness is less than rupture fragment thickness or inflator wall thickness at the egress opening. The rupture membrane is upstanding from the inflator wall about the egress opening to a constant height. The rupture fragment and the rupture membrane are integrally-formed with each other and with the inflator wall at the egress opening. The pressure impulse impacts the rupture fragment, urges the rupture fragment away from the inflator, detaches the rupture fragment from the inflator by fully transversely fracturing the rupture membrane, and drives the rupture fragment into containment within the diffuser.

The rigid structural panel may be a vertical truss or a rigid structural frame with a wooden panel covering one side and interconnecting the members of the rigid structural frame. The wooden panel may be made up of multiple panes to tailor the response of the panel to the lateral force load. The holdowns secure the rigid structural panel to the foundation bolts and may be either a folded strap and pin embodiment or self-tightening.

Abstract: The present invention provides a compressed gas cylinder that is capable of storing a compressed fluid at high pressures. The cylinder of the present invention includes a body terminating in an inwardly domed cap. The dome included in the cap of the compressed gas cylinder of the present invention is formed such that the material near the tip of the dome is relatively thinner than the material near the base of the dome. The tip of the dome, therefore, creates a pierce region in the cap that can be pierced through the application of a relatively low pressure.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid conduit piece (8) for passing therethrough a spontaneously exothermic working fluid such as a synthetic polymer, a cellulose derivative and a solution on the basis of cellulose, water and amino oxide, said fluid conduit piece comprising a working fluid zone (9) through which said working fluid flows. The aim of the invention is to prevent the fluid conduit piece and other fluidic devices from being damaged in the event of a spontaneous exothermic reaction in the working fluid. To this end, the fluid conduit piece is provided with an anti-rupture device (1) for the purpose of pressure relief. Said anti-rupture device has a pressure equalizing volume (7) that, once a predetermined rupture pressure is exceeded, can be converted from a normal operation state in which the pressure equalizing volume is separated from the working fluid zone into a rupture state in which the pressure equalizing volume is linked with the working fluid zone.

The foam sealing component is preferably attached to the top section by some sort of adhesive to hold it in place and it is installed on the process side of the top section. Additionally, the sealing member is preferably of a thickness which is substantially thicker than would typically be used in a conventional rupture panel arrangement. In another preferred embodiment the sealing member is also designed to function as a gasket, thereby eliminating the need for that separate member.

Abstract: There has been developed a safety valve installed on a small-sized cell vessel which remains hermetically sealed during the normal operation but which instantly releases the pressure in the inside of the vessel if, due to abnormalities, such as overcharging, the pressure is increased and reaches a prescribed value to prevent explosion or deformation of the cell vessel to evade the risk to the human being or destruction of the equipment. The metal foil type safety valve by the cold pressure welding of the present invention cold-pressure-welds the metal foil for sealing the air vent hole in the metal vessel. If the internal pressure in the vessel reaches the prescribed value, the metal foil is cleft to form an opening in the vessel to release the internal pressure.
