  • Patent number: 6397877
Abstract: A blowdown manifold for a nuclear power plant includes a main conduit section, at least one coolant exhaust conduit, and at least one fluidic device. The main conduit section is connected to a pressure relief system in the nuclear power plant. The coolant exhaust conduit has a first end coupled to the main conduit section and a second end extending into a receptacle. The fluidic device is in fluid communication with the main conduit and exhibits a lower flow resistance to air than to water and steam.

  • Patent number: 5927335
Abstract: A fluidic ball diverter valve for use in aerospace applications for diverting the output of a fluidic amplifier comprises a valve chamber having an inlet and two outlets. The orientation of the outlet valve seats is such that a line of action between the valve seats passing through the center of the valve ball defines an angle less 180 degrees. The orientation of the outlet valve seats permits the entire laminated fluidic amplifier module and at least a portion of the ball diverter valve itself to be mounted within the pressure vessel of the gas generator itself. By moving these components inside the pressure vessel, the pressure differential experienced by the components is substantially less than if the components were mounted outside the pressure vessel. This permits the components to be of substantially lighter construction.

  • Patent number: 5697402
Abstract: A system for mixing first and second polymer melt flows and directing a mixed polymer melt flow to one and another downstream locations includes a control valve having an inlet port for receiving the first polymer melt flow, and a pair of outlet ports, and a fluidic valve for forming the mixed flow of the first and second polymer melt flows and directing the mixed flow to one of a plurality of downstream locations. The fluidic valve is provided with a primary supply port for receiving the second polymer melt flow, a pair of secondary supply ports which are fluid-connected with the primary supply port at a mixing intersection, and a plurality of discharge ports extending from the mixing intersection. Each discharge port directs the mixed flow of the first and second polymer melt flows to a respective downstream location. A pair of branch conduits is provided which fluid-connect one of the pair of outlet ports of the control valve to a respective one of the secondary supply ports of the fluidic valve.

  • Patent number: 4852613
Abstract: A control system for a single acting or double acting fluidic pump comprising a detector stage (1), a power amplifiction stage (2) and a primary element stage (3). The detector stage comprises bistable fluidic amplifiers for detecting pressure changes in a gas pressure line (10) to a displacement vessel of the pump. The power amplification stage comprises at least one unvented bistable fluidic amplifier to amplify and direct signals from the detector stage to the primary element. The primary element can be a jet pump (12) and vortex amplifier (13) to provide high pressures in the gas pressure line (10).

  • Patent number: 4512371
Abstract: A photofluidic interface that transduces optical control signals into fluid ontrol pressures is provided in which an AC modulated light source is utilized to transmit control signals to a photo acoustic cell that absorbs the light energy and converts it to heat energy thus creating pressure pulses within the cell. The output signal of the photo acoustic cell is then fluidically amplified, fluidically rectified and again fluidically amplified to create an output signal that drives an actuator.

  • Patent number: 4313470
Abstract: For achieving a shut-off function, a mainstream communicates with a control stream into which an outlet for the mainstream opens laterally. By reciprocating the control stream back and forth across the outlet, for example by alternate pressurisation of reservoirs to which the control stream is connected at its ends, access of the mainstream to the outlet is inhibited. When the reciprocation is discontinued full flow of the mainstream to or through the outlet can take place.

  • Patent number: 4224964
Abstract: A binary fluidic counter which produces two outputs, each having a frequency one-half the frequency of the supply. The counter incorporates a pair of bi-stable fluidic amplifiers, the first receiving a pulsed fluid supply while the second receives a continuous fluid supply and has inputs directly connected with the outputs of the bi-stable director. The second bi-stable amplifier acts as a memory device. Feedback circuits respectively interconnect the outputs of the second memory device with the inputs of the first amplifier. Monostable fluidic OR gates interposed in the feedback circuits respectively permit and prevent interconnection of the outputs of the second amplifier with the inputs of the first amplifier in relation to the pulse signals being transmitted from the first to the second amplifier.
