  • Patent number: 8689836
Abstract: Apparatus and method for attaching an encapsulated marker to a flexible hose, such as a hose or cable. The method involves providing a flexible hose (100) having a rubber or plastic outer cover (202) positioned over an inner layer (203, 204). An annular segment of the outer cover is separated and removed to form an annular groove in the outer cover. A marker (101) is then positioned over the inner layer (203, 204) within the groove and a transparent encapsulating component (201) applied over the marker. A containment means (200) is then overlaid on the encapsulating component and overlaps onto a region of the outer cover either side of the groove. The cover assembly is then heated at elevated temperature. After cooling, the containment means (200) is removed. The encapsulated marker assembly is therefore provided which is chemically bonded or fused to the outer cover (202) of the flexible hose and is aligned flush with the external surface of the flexible hose.

  • Patent number: 8646488
Abstract: Described is a device for protecting a pipe, tube or conduit end that is left open or exposed without a fixture or terminating end. Instead of tape placed over an open pipe end, a specially shaped and marked protective cap provides a seal and a unique marker for each pipe end. The marker may be color coded, bar coded or numbered. Such protective cap seals pipe ends against moisture, dirt and other debris thereby reducing or eliminating corrosion. Such protective cap reduces installation time as compared to removing tape and tape residue from each pipe end. The unique marker can indicate the purpose and identity of each underlying pipe or tube. Such protective cap also improves the visibility of the pipe ends during construction thereby increasing the safety of a job or construction site.

Abstract: The composite tube comprises a tubular arrangement of knitted fiber having plurality of interlocking loops. The knitted pattern allows for variable electrical, mechanical and geometrical options. A matrix material is applied over the knitted fiber pattern and is allowed to cure. The matrix material may be applied by a vacuum bag molding process. The flexible knitted reinforcing layer allows use of an inflatable bladder to hold the reinforcing layer in the desired shape, thereby facilitating tube constructions of varying shapes and diameters. Continuous application of the matrix material avoids overlapping seams that are prone to delamination. Identification and labeling of the composite tube may be achieved with distinguishing knitted patterns having different types and colors of knitted fibers within the knitted reinforcing layer. A clear or translucent matrix material enables viewing of the underlying knitted patterns.

Abstract: A pressure-relieving safety assembly, comprising a sleeve and collar, protects against human injury and loss of life by blocking flow of fluid from a ruptured high pressure conduit and provides pressure relief for escaping fluid. This pressure-relieving assembly includes a sleeve that encircles the high-pressure line and is secured to, at one or both ends of the line, a coupling. The sleeve is secured to the coupling(s) by a collar having raised portions that provides a path for fluid that has escaped from the conduit at a burst or pin-hole failure location, to flow towards the ends of the conduit, indicating to the user that a conduit failure has occurred. The sleeve lowers the fluid velocity while the path provided by the collar prevents the fluid pressure from building up behind the sleeve.

Abstract: A method for the drainage of permeate gases from a flexible tubular pipe and a pipe embodied for carrying out the method. The pipe comprises at least one inner pressure sleeve, for the transport of hydrocarbons, which contain permeate gases which diffuse across the wall of the inner pressure sleeve. The pipe has an outer sleeve and several reinforcement layers, arranged in an annular zone between the outer sleeve and the inner pressure sleeve. The annular zone has transport ducts in which the permeate gases can circulate towards the removal. The method comprises a forced circulation of the permeate gases in the annular zone through the transport ducts towards the removal.

Abstract: A variable orifice for use in connection with a conduit designed to convey particulate material comprising a set of semi-circular plates mounted on respective concentric shafts so that they may be rotated in opposite directions between a first position in which they extend across the interior of the conduit for maximum flow resistance to a second folded condition where they are adjacent and parallel to one another to present minimum flow resistance. An actuator is connected through the concentric shafts to the plates and mounts on the outside of the conduit surface. The unit is operated by hand crank and has a position indicator. The size of the valve plates is such that, even when fully extended relative to one another and lying across the cross-section of the conduit, only about a 30% restriction is produced.

  • Patent number: 8087430
Abstract: A leak detecting hose for transporting fluid. The hose has an inner and outer layer. The outer layer circumscribes the inner layer. A transition layer is located between the inner and outer layer, and the transition layer provides a flow path for the fluid in the hose when the inner layer is breached. A first conductive wire is placed in contact with the transition layer, and a second conductive wire is placed in contact with the transition layer. The conductive wires are adjacent to and spaced from each other. When the inner layer of the hose is breached, the first and second wires will contact the fluid in the flow path. The conductive wires are radially equidistant from the center of the hose and helically wound around the inner layer. The transition layer may include reinforcement material, which can have filaments that provide a flow path for the fluid.

  • Patent number: 8070995
Abstract: A system and method for establishing plumbing kit specifications for kits containing plastic hose or tubing for installation on boats, RVs or other uses where ruler markings are imprinted longitudinally along the outside surface of stock hose. The ruler markings can be spaced approximately one inch, or other distance, and can include a series of numerals such as 1-12 or 1-11 followed by a repeat symbol. The sequence can repeat indefinitely along the length of the hose. The method allows a length specification for a particular hose segment to be generated by cutting a piece of stock hose at a particular starting ruler mark, clamping or connecting it in place, and then completing the installation of the segment by cutting the second end to the correct length and clamping or connecting it in place. The length can then be computed by reading the ruler marks on the installed hose. This information can be entered as part of the specification for a hose kit.
