Patent number: 9022076Abstract: A self-actuated linearly retractable and extendible hose for use in transporting fluids (liquids, gases, solid particles, and combinations of these) between a source location and an output location can be implemented as an extendible hose comprising a biasing element, a sealing layer, and a reinforced cover layer. The sealing layer forms a sealed conduit for transporting the fluids, and the reinforced cover layer on the outside provides radial and longitudinal strength for the sealing layer. The hose can be operated by increasing internal pressure within the hose relative to ambient pressure. When the hose is pressurized by a fluid source, the internal pressure of the hose overcomes the retracting force of the biasing element and the hose extends. When the fluid source is turned off or disconnected from the hose, internal pressure is reduced and the biasing element exerts a tension force on the hose causing the hose to retract.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2014Date of Patent: May 5, 2015Assignee: Ragner Technology CorporationInventors: Gary Dean Ragner, Robert Daniel deRochemont, Jr.

Patent number: 8910669Abstract: An insert, a pipe assembly, and a method for forming a pipe assembly are disclosed. The pipe assembly includes a hollow body and an insert bonded to the hollow body. The insert spans a knit line defined in the hollow body. The insert is formed from a fiber reinforced polymer material. The fibers are generally anisotropic, and preferably unidirectional, and the insert is oriented such that the fibers extend at an angle to the knit line and thus span the knit line. Preferably, the fibers extend perpendicularly to the knit line. The use of an insert having such an orientation reinforces the hollow body, particularly at the knit line. Thus, the use of such an insert bonded to a hollow body according to the present disclosure produces a pipe assembly having increased pressure ratings.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2013Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Ticona LLCInventor: David Michael Sheridan

Patent number: 8776836Abstract: Hose (70) has a biasing spring (76) extends along the full length. Spring (76) is covered with hose cover material (72) on the outside and hose support layer (74) and hose sealing layer (72) on the inside to form a sealed hose. The invention comprises the improvement of the hose body (layers (72), (74) and (75)) by defining the layers as bowed inward radially between the individual spring coils to create a helical indentation (74b) around hose (70). This helical indentation (74b) causes the hose body materials (layers (72), (74) and (75)) move inward radially when hose (70) is retracted and the coils of spring (76) are forced close together longitudinally. Thus, layers (72), (74) and (75) are folded substantially with spring (76) when retracted, greatly reducing the volume of hose (70) in its retracted position and substantially protecting (72), (74) and (75) from damage by abrasion an puncture.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2006Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: Ragner Technology CorporationInventors: Gary Dean Ragner, Robert Daniel DeRochemont, Jr.

Patent number: 8082954Abstract: A flexible pipe for transporting a fluid in a marine environment. The pipe comprises a liner for confining the fluid, an armoring layer surrounding the liner, and an outer protective sheath surrounding the armoring layer and allowing radial expansion and contraction of the armoring layers. The outer protective sheath comprises at least two protective layers of helically wound composite wires with essentially opposite winding angles and locally held together, providing a relatively flexible yet fixed structure of the outer sheath. The outer sheath is held together in an array of discrete spots or along linear or curved paths. Flexibility is maintained because the stiffness in shear in the wires of adjacent protective layers may be made much larger in areas being locally held together than outside these areas. This allows a change of angles between the wires of two adjacent layers of the outer protective sheath during elongation or shortening of the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: NKT Flexibles I/SInventor: Jan Rytter

Patent number: 8056584Abstract: A flexible hose construction with kink, crush, and burst resistance. The hose is constructed of a tubular member and a reinforcement strip at least partially embedded in the tubular member. The reinforcement strip is wound in a helical pattern encircling a central lumen of the tubular body. The material forming the reinforcement strip has a greater initial modulus than the material forming the tubular member.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2006Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Veyance Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas George Burrowes, David Joseph Maguire, Douglas Michael Gilg, Jenny Zhaoxia Yu

Patent number: 8033302Abstract: A bend stiffener, and a method of producing the same, comprising an elongated cylinder of a polymer material, having a termination interface (4) on at least one end. An internal reinforcement matrix is provided comprising a first layer of a cylindrically arranged woven material (2). The material of the first layer is unwoven at the termination end, the unwoven fibers engage the termination member (3) and pass back over the first layer. The returning fibers of the second layer may be cut at a plurality of lengths to provide zones (10, 11, 12) of decreasing fiber density from the termination end.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2007Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: SeaProof Solutions ASInventors: Roar Standal, Henrik Bang-Andreasen

Publication number: 20110209791Abstract: A multilayer flexible irrigation hose includes an inner layer made of a first thermoplastic polymer material, an outer layer made of a second thermoplastic polymer material, and a first textile reinforcement layer and a second textile reinforcement layer in mutually overlapping relation. The first and second textile reinforcement layers are knitted with stitches of the tricot type, having wales of stitches and lines of stitches. The lines of stitches of said first and second textile layers have opposite inclinations to the longitudinal axis of the hose, and the wales of stitches of at least one of said first and second textile layers are substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis. A method of making said hose, a line for manufacturing same and a knitting apparatus for making such hose are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2009Publication date: September 1, 2011Applicant: FITT S.P.A.Inventor: Alessandro Mezzalira
