  • Patent number: 8978714
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a bi-material sleeve is provided. The sleeve includes an annular outer sleeve and an annular inner sleeve bonded to each other. The bottom pouring of the outer sleeve is carried out in a casting space delimited by a wall of a first ingot mold and by an outer upwardly moveable wall of a second ingot mold concentric with the first. The moveable wall of the second ingot mold is raised so as to uncover the skin of the outer sleeve which has solidified thereagainst. The bottom pouring and the solidification of the inner sleeve are carried out in a casting space delimited by said skin and an inner stationary wall of said second ingot mold, the bonding of both sleeves being effected by diffusion between said sleeves. Forging and/or machining of one of said bonded sleeves are optionally carried out. A device for using this method and a sleeve produced by this method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8944114
Abstract: Mortar-coated steel pipe comprise a steel cylinder having a mortar layer disposed therein, such mortar layer being free of any metallic reinforcement. An overcoat is disposed over the mortar layer and is formed from a material that is a dielectric and/or a barrier to moisture and oxygen entering the mortar layer, e.g., a polymeric material. The pipe may include a further concrete or mortar layer disposed over the overcoat, forming an outermost pipe surface. The outer layer can be cement, mortar, or other material. The mortar layer thickness is about 2 to 30 mm, the overcoat thickness is about 0.1 to 2 mm, and any outer layer thickness is about 1.2 to 4 cm. The pipe is made by compression coating method, where mortar layer and overcoat are applied simultaneously. When an outer layer is desired, it is preferably applied at the same time as the mortar layer and overcoat.

  • Patent number: 8919389
Abstract: A tubular structure and method for making a tubular structure are provided, where the tubular structure includes at least one layer of braided strands. In general, at least one portion of the braided strands exhibits a braid pattern of crests and troughs (e.g., a wave pattern, which may include sinusoidal, square, and/or sawtooth waves) along a length of the tubular structure. The wave pattern can be created by rotating the mandrel onto which the tubular structure is braided during the braiding process, such as by angularly oscillating the mandrel about its longitudinal axis or about its transverse axis. As a result, the tubular structures may have increased radial strength, collapse resistance, torque transmission, column strength, and kink resistance. The tubular structures may be used in medical devices, such as stent-grafts, as well as in other medical and non-medical devices, such as in hoses, tubing, filters, and other devices.

  • Patent number: 8341953
Abstract: An exhaust manifold includes: a double collecting pipe having an inner pipe, including a collecting pipe portion and branch pipe portions, and an outer pipe, covering the collecting and branch pipe portions and thicker than the inner pipe; and an inner pipe retainer having semi-circular portions and a connecting portion, and thicker than the inner pipe and thinner than the outer pipe. The inner pipe retainer connects the inner and outer pipes with a gap therebetween. Exhaust gas from exhaust ports of a set of cylinders is introduced into the collecting pipe portion through the branch pipe portions. The total spot-welded area of the outer peripheral portions of the branch pipe portions and the inner peripheral portions of the semi-circular portions is larger than that of the inner peripheral portion of the outer pipe and the outer peripheral portions of the semi-circular portions.

  • Publication number: 20120175006
Abstract: A composite pipe has a metal conduit sandwiched between inner and outer conduits of PVC/CPVC, each of which are adhesively secured to the interlaying metal conduit with a dried, solvent-free thin layer of a thermosetting bilayer adhesive which provides a bond with the metal, which bond fails in cohesive failure. Narrowly defined limits on the thickness of each conduit are found to provide a bendable composite pipe with an aluminum interlayer; and to provide a rigid non-bendable composite pipe with a steel interlayer. Making the composite pipe which meets required ASTM and NSF test considerations requires unexpectedly critical process steps. A process for making the pipe is disclosed, as are PVC/CPVC fittings which allow lengths of pipe to be solvent-cemented in them so as to seal the terminal ends of the pipe against infusion of fluid under pressure in the pipe, thus preventing delamination.

Abstract: A flexible insulation material and method for using such an insulation material with an HVAC duct to provide noise suppression and thermal protection. The insulation material includes a lofted substrate and a facer sheet laminated thereto. The substrate contains nonwoven lofted fibers and the insulation material is attached to the duct such that a first surface of the substrate faces a wall surface of the duct and the facer sheet is on the opposite surface of the substrate. The facer sheet includes a polymeric film bonded to the substrate, a metallization layer on the polymeric film, and optionally a protective coating on the metallization layer. The insulation material can be used as an external duct wrap or an internal duct liner. In the former application, the insulation material preferably includes a second facer sheet on the first surface of the substrate.

Abstract: Pressure cast lined steel pipes comprise an annular concrete or mortar liner along an inside diameter, and a metal shell surrounding the liner, wherein the liner is in direct contact with the metal shell. The wall thickness of the liner can be from 10 to 50 times the thickness of the metal shell. The pipe may be coated with a dielectric material. A mold assembly used to form the pipe includes an annular concrete or mortar composition chamber formed between the metal shell and an inner mold member. Pressurized water is used in the mold assembly to pressurize the concrete or mortar composition and exert a desired pressure force onto the metal shell while the composition cures in the mold. Once a desired degree of cure is achieved, the pressure is removed causing the metal shell to exert a desired compression force onto the cured liner.
