  • Patent number: 6978807
Abstract: A high temperature pre-insulated piping system is shown which has a special water stop located along the length of the piping. The water stop has an internal disk which forms a pair of isolated regions within the water stop. The internal disk is formed of a material which is impervious to the flow of water. As a result, the two internal regions are isolated from one another and act as isolating elements to contain any breach in the exterior of the piping system to a specific location in the length of the pipe string.

  • Patent number: 6926040
Abstract: A thermally insulated pipeline assembly comprises an inner pipe surrounded by and spaced from a jacket, which is in turn surrounded by and spaced from an outer casing. The annular space between the inner pipe and the jacket is substantially filled with thermal insulating material such as open cell polyurethane foam, which is preferably injected into the jacket and cured in situ. The space between the jacket and the outer casing may be filled with pressurized gas. The jacket may have apertures to allow the gas access to the annular insulated space. The arrangement provides improved thermal insulation, particularly when the casing is pressurized, by reducing thermal transfer by convection between the inner pipe and the outer casing. The arrangement is also applicable to pipeline bundles, with a plurality of inner pipes each having an associated jacket and insulation, all surrounded by a common casing.

  • Patent number: 6848478
Abstract: A small-diameter part in the vicinity of a center of a bellows portion in an axial direction has a smaller diameter. A tip end of the small-diameter part contacts at a point A with an outer peripheral face of an interlock pipe. The interlock pipe vibrates with using the point A and points B in both ends as fulcrums. The addition of the point A reduces distance between the fulcrums. In accordance with this reduction, deflection amount of the interlock pipe is reduced and vibration amplitude of the interlock pipe is decreased. Therefore, the interlock pipe does not contact with the bellows portion so that troubles such as noises can be prevented from occurring.

Abstract: An insulated pipeline comprises an inner pipe, and an outer poly sleeve co-axial with the inner pipe. The inner pipe and the outer poly sleeve are in spaced relationship to define an annulus. An insulating core within the annulus encases lengthwise the inner pipe, and comprises a plurality of pre-cured syntactic elements. A first binder fills interstices in the annulus. The pre-cured syntactic elements include microspheres and a second binder. Each of the pre-cured syntactic elements may also include macrospheres. The pre-cured syntactic elements are preferably extruded and cylindrically shaped. In addition, in one embodiment, the second binder is preferably more rigid than the first binder.

Abstract: Contoured metal-containing structural members and methods for making the same. The contoured structural members comprise metal-containing materials sandwiching a support or stabilizing structure. The contoured structure can be provided by tube rolling (or roll wrapping) the metal-containing materials and the support structure together and then, if necessary, bonding them or connecting them. With a contoured and generally non-flat structure, applications for the structural members of the present invention are nearly limitless.

Abstract: A casing spacer disposed between and engaging an inner carrier pipe and an outer casing maintains separation between and alignment of the carrier pipe and the casing. The casing spacer includes plural connected shell members, or segments, disposed about and engaging an outer surface of a carrier pipe and an inner surface of the casing. Each shell member includes one or more non-slip members engaging the carrier pipe to prevent movement of the casing spacer along the carrier pipe/casing combination. Each shell member is comprised of a high-strength, pliable material permitting shell members of different sizes to be connected together in a single casing spacer to accommodate a wide range of carrier pipe circumferences. The shell members are connected by plural nut and bolt couplers, with each shell member further including tapered coupling apertures and plural connector flanges to facilitate assembly and installation.

Abstract: A leak-free flexible conduit and method of making the same is described. By attaching a flexible outer hose to a flexible inner hose without directly clamping the outer hose to the inner hose, the life of the inner hose is increased. Furthermore, the outer flexible hose creates a heat-resistant, airtight seal that prevents exhaust leaks from the inner flexible hose from escaping, substantially reduces the heat lost to the atmosphere, decreases the amount of vibration, reduces noise, and protects the inner flexible hose from corrosive elements and contaminants, thereby also extending the life of the inner flexible hose.

  • Publication number: 20030075226
Abstract: An insulated pipework system comprises an outer sleeve, an inner flow pipe and one or more evacuated volumes in the space therebetween defined by annular plugs of a setting polymeric composition such as epoxy resin or a syntactic foam, typically at regular intervals along the length of the pipeline. The epoxy resins (for example) are ideally of sufficient rigidity to allow effective transfer of longitudinal forces between the inner and outer pipes. Thus, the evacuated volumes will themselves be annular. Other plugs of different orientation (for example longitudinal) could be included to subdivide the evacuated volumes further. The plugs allow the space between the pipes to be partitioned so that air can be evacuated from the sections so formed to provide the vacuum that acts as the insulating layer. Also, the plugs replace the need for bulkheads in that the partitioning of the inter-pipe space provides the desired water-stopping means.

  • Patent number: 6543575
Abstract: There is provided a double-walled structure for coupling to another double-walled structure. The coupling connects one female end portion of the one structure and one male end portion of the other structure together. The connecting requires only connecting of the outer walls of the structures together, providing an overlapping connection. The inner walls of the structures have a gap between their ends, when connected. Thereby the coupling of the structures is facilitated. The space between the inner wall and outer wall of the structure is occupied by an insulating material, such as a sound absorbing fibrous batting. The space between the male/female end portions for connection to a female/male end of another structure is filled by a seal, preventing loss of insulating material and providing insulation of the joint coupling the double-walled structures together. The structure can be used, especially, as a segment in a sound-absorbing ductworks system.

  • Patent number: 6527013
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a plastic jacket having air spaces formed by spaced walls used to insulate hot and cold piping systems and the fittings for those systems. The jacket is made from multiple segments, which are joined together along their longitudinal joints. The segments are joined to each other by tongue and groove connections. One segment can be cut longitudinally and glued to another segment to make a larger segment to fit various diameters of pipe. In a further embodiment, the plastic jacket is modified to form the duct of a heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. The inner wall of the jacket forms the air duct. In both embodiments, at least some of the segments have hinge portions created by omitting the inner wall at the hinge portions.
