Patent number: 8235074Abstract: The pipe has a non-circular cross section that generally looks like that of a squashed circle. The pipe would not deform significantly from that having the squashed circle cross section under the condition in which the inside pressure is the same or less than that of the internal pressure of the pipe that carries ordinary cold tap water. The cross section of the pipe gets deformed to become rounder and larger when the water within the pipe is frozen, and the rounder and larger cross section is large enough for the pipe to contain the frozen water or ice without having any damages. The pipe is made of material such as high carbon content steel that allows the pipe to change its shape back to the pre-frozen shape as the water inside is thawed out.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2010Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Inventor: Masami Sakita

Patent number: 8146620Abstract: A corrugated pipe having a non circular in cross section profile and at least one generally elongate wall section is improved by using a variable height corrugation in the length of the elongate wall segment. The variable height corrugation is of a greatest height at a center portion thereof and decreases in height towards the end points of the elongate wall segment. A spanning type truss arrangement is formed that opposes inward deflection of the straight wall segment.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2010Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Inventors: Manfred A. A. Lupke, Stefan A. Lupke

Publication number: 20120073696Abstract: The present invention provides a hose excellent in mechanical properties at high temperatures. The hose of the present invention comprises a cross-linked fluororubber layer obtainable by cross-linking a fluororubber composition containing a fluororubber (A) and a carbon black (B). The cross-linked fluororubber layer has a loss modulus E? of 400 kPa or higher and 6,000 kPa or lower determined by a dynamic viscoelasticity test (measurement temperature: 160° C., tensile strain: 1%, initial force: 157 cN, frequency: 10 Hz).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: DAIKIN INDUSTRIES LTD.Inventors: Junpei TERADA, Daisuke OTA, Masanori KITAICHI, Yutaka UETA, Shigeru MORITA, Kazuyoshi KAWASAKI, Tatsuya MORIKAWA, Satoshi KAWAI, Shoji FUKUOKA

Publication number: 20120073692Abstract: A pipe, such as a liner for repairing a failing culvert, comprises a continuous wall defining an inner wall surface and an exterior wall surface. The pipe further defines a central fluid passageway extending from an inlet end to an outlet end. The inner wall surface of the pipe defines a waveform-like geometry near the inlet end, said waveform-like geometry including an initial curvature beginning at the inlet end of the pipe and continuing until reaching a predetermined location where an inner diameter of the pipe is minimized, the curvature then continuing with the inner diameter increasing again to a second predetermined location, before the inner diameter again decreases to a third predetermined location and then remains substantially constant along the remaining length of the pipe, thus creating an annular recess in the inner wall surface of the pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2011Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: ISCO INDUSTRIES, LLCInventors: Don McGriff, Tim Toliver

Publication number: 20120073695Abstract: A drilling device for use in a wellbore may include a tubular casing member having an external surface, and a thread member positioned on the exterior surface of the tubular casing member. The thread member may form a spiral on the exterior surface of the tubular casing member. The thread member may have a pentagonal cross section. The thread member may have a pitched cross section. The thread member may have a triangular cross-section. The thread member may have a convex cross-section. The thread member may have a concave cross-section. The thread member may have a rectangular cross section.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2010Publication date: March 29, 2012Inventor: Donald Patrick Muth

Publication number: 20120073694Abstract: A cooling duct connects a passenger compartment of a vehicle and an energy storage system in fluid communication, and directs a flow of air from the passenger compartment to the energy storage system to cool the energy storage system. The cooling duct includes a first portion that is formed from a non-porous material, and a second portion that is formed from a porous material. The first portion and the second portion are attached to define an enclosed flow path. The second portion includes an airflow resistivity that allows air infiltration into the second portion, through the porous material, at a rate of between zero percent (0%) and twenty percent (20%) of a minimum flow rate when an inlet of the cooling duct is unobstructed, and at a rate of at least thirty percent (30%) when the inlet is completely obstructed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2010Publication date: March 29, 2012Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC.Inventors: Michael G.
