  • Patent number: 9199841
Abstract: Bundled carbon nanotubes are disentangled and dispersed using the principles of extreme pressure reduction of fluids carrying the bundled nanotubes. They are added to a high pressure fluid upstream of a chamber operated at much lower pressure. These high-low pressure ratios are preferably at least 100:1. As the high pressure fluid enters the lower pressure chamber it violently expands causing separation and disentanglement of the bundled carbon fibers. To further assist in this disentanglement a nozzle may be used at the inlet to the lower pressure chamber to direct the high pressure fluid against a hardened anvil in the chamber. This impact further aids disentanglement. Coating the nanotubes with a dispersant also improves disentanglement.

  • Patent number: 9133971
Abstract: An improved low-pressure, water-heating solar panel provides easier and safer initial installation because it is more resistant to damage by workmen during that installation. Further, after installation, the solar panel is more resistant to damage by high winds because it has a low profile and does not present a gap or space into which high winds can intrude to lift, cause flapping of, and damage to the solar panel. Also, during freezing weather the improved solar panel is not damaged by freezing of retained water due to its novel internal construction which allows substantially all water to completely drain from the solar panel and prevents any puddling of retained water. Methods of manufacturing the improved solar panel are disclosed.

Abstract: Examples of a jet control device are described. The jet control device can comprise a jet deflecting member that is configured to intercept and/or collide with a high speed jet emerging from a jet formation location. The interaction of the jet deflecting member and the jet can cause the high speed jet to be dispersed into a plurality of jets with a number of flow directions which may be sideways to an initial direction of the high speed jet. In one embodiment the deflecting member can include a liquid guide formed by injecting a fluid out of an outlet nozzle so that the liquid guide extends longitudinally away from the outlet nozzle. In another embodiment the deflecting member can include an array of solid pellets injected through an outlet in a direction of the emerging high speed jet and configured to collide with the emerging jet thereby deflecting its initial direction.

Abstract: A pressure sensor system may sense the pressure of a gas or liquid. The system may include a housing that has an entry port for the gas or liquid; a pressure sensor within the housing; and a baffle positioned between the entry port and the pressure sensor. The baffle may have one or more inlets oriented to receive gas or liquid that enters the entry port; one or more outlets oriented to deliver the received gas or liquid to the pressure sensor; and one or more sealed flow channels that prevent the gas or liquid from escaping from the baffle, other than through the one or more outlets. At least one of the outlets may be located within no more than one millimeter of a location on the pressure sensor. The pressure sensor and baffle may be made at the same time during a process of depositing, pattering, etching, wafer bonding, and/or wafer thinning a series of layers using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology.

  • Patent number: 8753579
Abstract: The photoreactor comprises a tube bundle (10) made up of numerous capillary tubes (11) through which a reaction medium flows. The tubes (11) are transparent. Solar radiation or artificial radiation acts upon the reaction medium for effecting a photochemical or photobiological treatment. The inlet chamber (12) connected with the tube bundle (10) comprises a flow distributor (16) which distributes the reaction medium from the fluid inlet (15) to the tubes (11). The flow distributor (16) allows for a smaller volume of the inlet chamber (12). The reactor volume, which is not irradiated, is thus reduced, and the efficiency of the rector is enhanced.
