  • Patent number: 8281817
Abstract: A laminar flow tool is for channeling water, air or other fluids through a down drill pipe or tubing for pressurization of other tools or other purposes. The tool provides a flow divider having an 180 degree twist separating a driven fluid chamber from a buffer fluid pocket. Fluid in the tool is calmed as it travels and loses some of the spin (“turbulence”) inherent in the water or other fluid. A buffer pocket on one side absorbs shocks and stabilizes the driven side. Ports in the buffer side help equalize pressure.

The device allows one to substantially reduce or even eliminate large-scale turbulent eddies that could otherwise be produced by liquid flowing into or within a vessel, for example in a clarifier. Suitably-sized and positioned plates and baffles induce changes of flow direction in a limited volume. By the time the fluid leaves this volume, the fluid velocity is low, and turbulence is nearly or entirely eliminated. • Patent number: 7798175
Abstract: A fluid diversion conduit is described for diverting the flow of fluid, and particularly for diverting water from a stream to a discharge location. The discharge end of the duct has a segment of gradually enlarging cross sectional area, forming a hydraulic flow diffuser. Water flow through this segment is thereby slowed as the flow area increases, and most of the dynamic head of the water flow is recovered, improving flow capacity of the conduit. The rate of flow through the conduit may be monitored and controlled to achieve streamline flow in the diffuser section, and to prevent air from entering the diffuser section. Air entering the conduit may be expelled or otherwise displaced from the conduit.
