  • Patent number: 10718460
Abstract: A plug for plugging a line includes a seal, a first end assembly and a second end assembly. The first end assembly includes a gripping member. An actuator is configured to draw the first and second end assemblies together when there is a relative motion between the actuator and the first end assembly. The actuator is configured to actuate the gripping member. An initial part of a motion of the actuator actuates the gripping member to grip an inner surface of the line, thus inhibiting a motion of the first end assembly, and a subsequent part of the motion of the actuator, relative to the thus motion-inhibited first end assembly, draws the second end assembly toward the first end assembly so as to compress the seal such that the seal may seal against the inner surface of the line thus plugging the line.

  • Patent number: 10577902
Abstract: A plunger for a gas producing well having a production tubing string has a plunger body with a pad receiving profile defined by first and second pad retainers. A plurality of pads is engaged between the first and second pad retainers, which permit limited radial movement of the pads sufficient to contact an inner surface of the production tubing string. A sheet of resilient material, acting as a spring member, is positioned within the pad receiving profile and between the plurality of pads and the plunger body. The spring member defines an annular chamber between the spring member and the plunger body in fluid communication with the downhole end of the plunger body and provides an outward force to the pads. • Patent number: 9446821
Abstract: The system for sealing subsea equipment includes a port tube, having a test port hole and a curved slot, a test port plug mounted in the test port hole, an insert body having an insertion tip portion, a middle sealing portion, and a base portion, an insert stem engaged to the base portion, a top cap engaged to the insert body, and a sealing device mounted around the insert body and in sealing engagement with the port tube. A locked configuration corresponds to a locking arm of the top cap at a terminal end of the curved slot. A set configuration corresponds to compression of the sealing device by actuation of the insert body by the plug stem. Abstract: Improvements to electrofusion fittings that enable the integrity of a weld between an electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining (or stand-alone pipe) to be tested in the field, and corresponding methods of installation and testing. An electrofusion fitting for joining sections of lined pipe has heating elements configured to create at least one weld between the electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining, and a channel provides fluid access to a test region between the electrofusion fitting and the pipe lining to allow leak testing to be performed. The channel may be provided through the fitting itself, or alternatively through the pipe lining. Methods of fabricating or laying pipeline may incorporate use of the improved fitting whether using length-by-length construction methods or joining subsequent reel-laid or towed-in pipe lengths.

  • Patent number: 9249918
Abstract: A first sealing body and a second sealing body made of a resiliently expandable material, such as Kevlar-reinforced rubber, are connected by an intermediate piece that, having a larger wall thickness, is made of the same material, and is flexible, thereby providing the device excellent ability to pass through pipe bends. Together they surround a contiguous cavity into which pressurised air can be introduced via a pressurised air connection disposed on an end plate at a rear end of the device, to expand the diameters of the sealing bodies whereupon the latter tightly close off a test space in a pipe connection. A material feeding connection is connected to a discharge opening in a threaded bushing connecting the intermediate piece to the second sealing body, and a cable connection is connected to a camera facing to the outside that is attached to the bushing.

The tool isolates the lower pipe bore from the upper bore so that flammable downhole fluid is prevented from reaching a welding site along the pipe wall. The tool incorporates: means for establishing a pair of axially spaced apart annular seals engaging the pipe inner surface; means for venting downhole fluid to ground surface; and means for monitoring for seal leakage. The tool is primarily mechanical in nature. It finds use in connection with off-shore platform riser renewal operations.

  • Patent number: 9027601
Abstract: A hydraulically installed tube plug with or without O.D surface enhancements and plug installation tooling, high pressure fluid system and method. The invention stops leaks in tubes with a plug that utilizes controlled high pressure fluid within the plug itself to radially expand the plug in place. Other plugs and plugging systems rely on mechanical methods for setting the plugs in the tubes with little or no control on the radial pressure applied to the tube. This lack of radial pressure control can result in a tubesheet ligament being over stressed (plastically deformed) or not enough pressure applied to stop the leak. The plug high pressure expansion tooling is designed with built in safety components that allow high pressure hydraulic expansion methods to be used safely in blind holes. The high pressure fluid system's design allows it to be used in hazardous environments.
