  • Patent number: 5564473
Abstract: An apparatus and method for correcting an irregularity during the insertion of a weft yarn into a weaving rotor of a series shed weaving machine involves drawing a length of weft yarn from a supply unit and delivering the weft yarn to the weaving machine in synchronicity with the weaving cycle. The length of weft yarn is inserted into a weft yarn conveyor apparatus and wound around a conveyor roller. A sensor is positioned between the supply unit and the conveyor apparatus to detect a weft yarn interruption, e.g., as a result of a weft yarn breakage or the yarn running out of spool. When the interruption is detected, the conveyor roller continues to deliver weft yarn stored in the storage apparatus until a complete weft yarn insertion into the weaving machine has taken place (i.e., weft yarn having a single loom width). The weft yarn is then cut at the insertion side of the weaving machine and the weaving machine is stopped.

  • Patent number: 5293906
Abstract: A circular loom comprises weft ribbon shuttle assemblies and a control system for detecting the position of one of the shuttle assemblies at spaced points about the periphery of the loom, and then presetting warp ribbon-setting air cylinders in advance of each of the shuttle assemblies for subsequent passage of the shuttle assemblies through the resultant warp sheds without engaging the warp ribbons. Electrical brakes control warp and weft tension in a uniform manner. The shuttle assemblies are driven by a gearing from a motor mounted independently of the shuttle assemblies. In a fabric-forming position, each weft ribbon slides transversely under a fabric-forming ring with the longitudinally moving warp shed and into the plane of the formed fabric in engagement with an annular inner surface of the ring, essentially without any twist about a transverse axis of the weft.

  • Patent number: 4135556
Abstract: A method of and a device for stopping the movement of a weft-carrier or shuttle when an obstruction is in the shed of a loom without damaging the loom or fabric being woven. The device includes a power operated shuttle drive mechanism adapted to engage the shuttle to move the shuttle through a shed, and a sensitive section adapted to be responsive to forces produced by an obstruction in the shed. When such forces exceed a predetermined value, the sensitive section actuates a transducer to stop the supply of power to shuttle drive mechanism and reduces to zero the forces being applied to the shuttle by its drive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4125134
Abstract: The invention relates to weaving mechanisms and can be used to advantage in wave-type shedding looms. The mechanism includes a plurality of toothed discs mounted in a staggered fashion on a shaft and defining a helical surface having a portion of a varying radius diminishing axially in the direction of the advancing motion of the helical surface. Underlying the discs are support rollers with lugs defining a helical surface engaging the helical surface defined by the valleys of the discs and likewise having a portion of a varying radius, engaging the corresponding portion of the helical surface defined by the valleys. Such an embodiment simplifies the structure of the mechanism and obviates the need in a drive of the support rollers.

  • Patent number: 4120326
Abstract: An improved shed forming device having two-part heald holders the parts of which are secured together by a quickly detachable connecting means. The means connecting the two portions of the holder is made as a locking means in which the extremity of one portion of the holder is inserted or telescoped into the other portion and is held in the inserted position by a selectively releasable pawl. With the heald holders of the invention, warp threads may be drawn into the healds, when changing the weaving design or the number of healds in the individual holders, outside and away from the loom; thus reducing the idle time of the loom to a minimum. With the locking means there is preferably provided means for unlocking the pawl and for shifting the two portions of the holder relative to each other. The device of the invention may incorporate a cursor running or guide means extending across the loom, the cursor selectively locking the two portions of successive holders together or unlocking them from each other.

  • Patent number: 4111238
Abstract: An improved technique for presetting the adjustment cams that move the heddles of a travelling wave loom between their upper and lower shed-forming positions as described. The succession of control cams or guiding members, which engage actuating butts on the lower ends of the successive heddle members in the weaving region of the loom, are carried by a first endless conveyor; the succession of guiding members includes spaced adjustment portions including a slider element having three superposed cam track junction portions. A control section in the form of a travelling endless program member resembling a second endless conveyor upstream of the weaving region is selectively coupled to a link which engages a roller supported on the slider of each adjustment portion of the succession of guiding members. The link is movable into three positions corresponding to the three positions of adjustment of each slider.

  • Patent number: 4081001
Abstract: The apparatus includes a closed stationary guideway incorporating a chain conveyer having means for propelling the weft-thread carriers. The closed stationary guideway has two curvilinear and two rectilinear portions. Above one of the curvilinear portions and above the rectilinear portions of the guideway, except for the part thereof disposed in a cloth forming zone, there is installed an additional guideway slidably engaging a guide surface made on the top side of the weft thread carriers. Located above the other curvilinear portion of the closed stationary guideway are movable retainers contacting surfaces of the weft thread carriers. Thus, the above structure reliably retains the weft thread carriers against vertical displacements and to use for propelling the weft thread carriers out of the shed the very same elements used for propelling them in the shed.

Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for charging weft thread carriers in wave-type shedding looms. The apparatus comprises a thread guide including a rod having an opening made in one end thereof for the passage of a thread, the other end being pivotally connected with a drive and said rod is mounted in a support disposed intermediate the ends of the rod and arranged so that during a charging operation the ends of the rod are driven through circular motions. The apparatus reduces the thread charging time and also reduces the thread breakage rate, owing to less mechanical action upon the thread.

  • Patent number: 4073319
Abstract: Each shuttle of a multiple-shuttle weaving machine is provided with at least one shuttle magnet. A drive unit acts upon each shuttle magnet to effect positive magnetic transport of the shuttle through the length of the shed, without physically contacting the shuttle. The shuttle monitoring device includes a magnetic-field-dependent resistor for each shuttle to be monitored. The magnetic-field-dependent resistor is moved in parallel to and in synchronism with the drive unit for the shuttle and moves in a region where the resistor is influenced by at least one pole of the shuttle magnet. A machine shut-off device is connected to the resistor and is operative for shutting off the drive units for the shuttles of the weaving machine in response to a resistance change of the magnetic-field-dependent resistor indicative of lack of proper shuttle movement.
